Photos & Videos / Finnish National Enduro Championship, round 4-5
« on: May 23, 2012, 11:53:39 AM »

Video made by Juha Kollanus, I do not own credits for this video.

It was a two day race with World Enduro Championship format. There was pro's like Factory KTM's Eero Remes #34, Factory Beta's Marko Tarkkala #4 with all the other top guys. I had to DNF the first day due to some chain issues, but I got a 3rd in the second day in the B-open class and I was pretty happy with that! It was a rough two days with a total 11 hours of riding, the stages were fast and fun but the trails... Man, they were super gnarly!

I'm racing Enduro in Orimattila, here in Finland. Looking forward getting a top ten in the B-Open class. Looks like +50 riders has singed up for that class, it's gonna be a good race!

Watching some previews of the stages, this one looks pretty fun IMO. Should be a fun day for sure!

General Two Stroke Talk / Neck Braces (with poll)
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:55:55 PM »
I bought an EVS thinking it was the smart thing to do.
To make a long story short, I stopped wearing it after the third concussion in 2 seasons. The final (and very bad) one from a very light crash on a sand track. I'm still aware of the dangers, and wear a neck roll now instead.
If you go down and your head can't move, your brain might and then you're concussed.

That doesn't sound good at all. And how about all the brain injuries that has happened in the era of neck braces? Masterpool, Trettel, Mcfarlane, the list just goes on... Neck Braces might steer the force to wrong place, which in this case would be the brains.

I'm not convinced of the benefit out weighing tge risks personally. I've seen more injuries with them than they prevented personally. A friend of mine had a Leatt that the buckle malfunctioned and it actually slit his throat and was very scary luckily it wasn't deep enough to do serious damage. I've also seen small wrecks that broke collar bones that normally would have been walked away from. And finally I knew a guy wearing a Leatt that broke his back in a small crash at the exact point the Leatt stops and sent him to rehab and he won't ever ride again. Now I know there is no way to prove these injuries would have been worse without the braces just what over personally seen and been told. It's just not for me.

I totally understand, those are the things that I'm concerned about too. Good neck muscles, great helmet and a good relationship with the Men upstairs is probably as good as braces as far as neck protection goes, lol

Whats up everyone!

After neck braces have been couple years on the market, it has become the most contoversial and opinion-splitting piece of safety equipment out there. Right now, more and more guys seems to be running without one. I heard RD cut more than half a second off from his laptimes without one, since it made his cornering much better. Dont know if that was the actual reason for his laptimes, but anyways I guess the biggest "peak" of the neck braces has gone by now.

I have been using Leatt since it came out, but been running without one for quite a time now. Since I started riding and racing offroad more than MX, I found it extremely uncomfortable at times. And it may sound funny, but I even felt that it was literally slowing me down sometimes. Especially in tight sections, sections with steep hills, anywhere where you really have to extend your neck and look around, it started to feel very bad.

Anyway, I just ordered the new EVS R4. From what I've heard, it gives your head a bit more space than Leatt or Alpinestars. I'm really looking forward to get it on and put in some laps with it to really see how it is. (Pic below)

So, what's your opinion on neck braces, and what are you using?

Lights are a must guys, the bike has to fall under the road traffic law... And handguards I already have. Normal MX style protectors for me, I don't want my hands to be trapped in those US style things lol Pretty much nobody uses those around here in enduro/cross country.

My RM has to be 100% enduro ready for 26.2... So that's our deadline. Things are getting there, step by step!

How do you plan on putting the head light in? Your going to need a battery of some sort, or your going to have to do some major modifications so that you can run an alternator to power the light. I have seen it done, but the battery would probably be the easiest for you. That is unless there is something I'm missing that they just started making  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

stator with a lighting coil takes care of the lights.

Yeah, stator with a lighting coil will do that. We have already found that from here. Thanks for the sidestand link, but I'd love to get that from EU too! You can add immediatly 23% for those prices, Finland has ridicolous taxes. There wouldn't be any tax added if it's from inside of EU. That skidplate looks sick tho!

Hi there fellow two-smokers!

So it really came to this. I was racing both MX and Enduro, and the results were constantly better in Enduro and Cross-country, than they were in MX. Me and my dad decided that it's now time for giving a shot for Enduro. My dad has always liked Enduro better, and he has always tried to talk me to ride that. And the enduro thing is pretty big here in Finland, so everything kinda seems good about it. Also, I find myself having a lot more fun riding those races and training for it than in MX!

Here is the bike as it is now:

This is something that it should be looking like pretty soon:

What we have done the bike for now: A friend of mine softened the suspension up for enduro.

What we still have to do: Getting the bike to produce it's own electricity for lights. That ain't too hard, we can buy a ready, pretty much bolt-on kit for that. There shouldn't be any problems with that. Then ofcourse, the lightmask and the tail for licence plate. No biggie!

Skidplate - can't find good one for reasonable price from Finland, and really haven't found one from anywhere Europe. Second thing is that the bike has to have a solid side stand. Don't know a word for that, but I can't seem to find that for RM 250 from Finland, and don't know any other European shops so I could buy that from there... One thing we could do, is to build it ourselves/convert others models stand for our bike.

So all Euro guys or someone who knows something about these, links for shops that sells those would be much needed!

Any suggestions/thoughts/experiences about this kind of stuff?

General Two Stroke Talk / How do you train?
« on: January 20, 2012, 05:44:41 PM »
Sit on the couch and ask the wife "Pull my finger"   ;D :o
Mines similar, but I tell her to get me a beer first  :D :D

Both of those sound professional! I guess I gotta try those someday! There's nothing like the good ole' pull my finger trick.

Hi guys!

Kinda pointless topic, but I just saw some old Mike Tyson's training programs from the internet, and I started to think how cool would be to see PRO riders weekly program... Anyways I guess that is pretty much impossible, so I decided to ask you guys!

I'm currently doing my pre-season training, and my last week looked like this:

Monday: Warm up jog, upper body & core strenght training at gym 50mins, intense 15min run back home
Tuesday: Low heart rate/ aerobic base training run (130-150 heartrate) 1:15h
Wednesday: Riding 1h total, running interwals after that
Thursday: Whole body workout at gym
Friday: Badminton for 1h
Saturday: Riding for 1h total

So that what my week looked like. I bet this was about 1/4 at most of what for example Ryan Villopoto did in his pre-season, lol... I'm trying to do this week pretty much the same way, except I'm trying to do a little more riding. What's up with you'r training guys, let us see your week's training schedule or just tell us how are you doing your workout!

Hey!

My newest video, filmed some footage from Finnish Team Championship race. That means that different clubs all over Finland put their best riders in the team, like a club MXDN lol.

I pretty much film at the races when I'm not racing myself, it's pretty nice kinda side hobby.

Hyvinkää Joukkue-SM 2011

AND IM SORRY GUYS, THIS IS NOT PARTICULARY A TWO STROKE VIDEO... Anyway, there IS some two strokes as well! Rate and comment, hope you like it.

Cool bike, but why not get a slightly older bike for half the price? Same bike...

Because new is always new. You know it!
