I just recently had to order parts for the bottom end of my CRF250X (yes, I own a 250 4$) and grand total was $1500 more or less. I also had to wait a week before they could ship me the parts (which takes 10 days to two weeks).
Ten days ago, I called Tony Murphy Rotax in California and ordered a complete bottom and top end rebuild (including crank!) for my MX-6 400. He had all the parts in stock and in the mail same day. The box is now in my lap and my credit card is $750 lighter.
So let me put this straight: Honda, the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, took over 3 weeks to get me the required parts for a "modern" bike at twice the price. While Can-Am, a defunct motorcycle company that hasn't produced motorcycles since 1983, can still deliver parts immediately for a 1980 motorcycle. If I had walked in his store, I could have carried them out, but with shipping - across America and across the ocean to a little island in the middle of nowhere, in 10 days.
Can-Am (Bombardier), are you listening? We know Honda isn't!
