1986 Maico / MStar 500 (The last of the Maisch).  Water cooled, front/back disc brakes and even has the dreaded power valve!

"He thinks the new bikes are hideous, and I don't blame him.  One thing to keep in mind is that this 17-year-old isn't one of those new little bastards that smokes pot and spends hours in the school parking lot showing off a Civic with the engine out of a lawnmower.  He's the kind of guy who shows up in an F-150 and plays games with the Civic crowd using the big, manly V8.  He's into no-nonsense vehicles with a raw, rough sort of presence."

LOL - I feel the same way, the new bikes are hideous, I did look before I bought my bikes.  The only new bike I would buy would be the Maico.

The second part "showing off a Civic with the engine out of a lawnmower" reminds me of seeing people doing that many years back.  A few of my friends were into cars, I was never, but they had built their own cars and engines, like restored a 1969 Camero and made Chavelles with built engines, put posi into them.  And we were at some illegal drag race and I think some guy had a Camero or something, one of the new ones, and he had his hood opened showing other people the engine and pointing to it.  My friend was mocking him saying "Look how chevy put those wires in there.  Look how chevy routed those cables there, isn't that great?  Isnt that nice how Chevy bolted this motor in?"

A whole gang of Husqvarnas!  You know, each time I've owned a Husqvarna never really got to ride it and got rid of it.  There was a 390 for sale in Seattle the other day for $500, that thing was gone quickly, almost considered getting it!  I wouldn't mind a 1981 or 1982 250CR/XC or 500 CR/XC, I don't like the white in the 83 or 84 and the water cooling (for the 500s, the 83 or 84 started already in the 250s) in 85's they look too square.

Actually, I am getting a new bike should have it here prolly by June.

"Whereas a 2t feels like you are making no power until you get to the power band at which point it feels like someone has flipped a switch to ignite a rocket ship. Very exciting but can be difficult to control."

I guess they never heard of Maico before.

Without the wheel chair the meaning starts to deterorate I think since it's the universal symbol of Handicapp parking even if you're not in a wheel chair. But since we are actually not talking about physical persona handicapp perhaps an all together different sign is more appropriate.  Is there a sign for Golf Handicap or other sports?

Just call them "Foul Strokes".

"You riding a handicaped foul stroke at the race today?"

"How's your handicap on the foul stroke?"

"I heard of a new AMA rule that allows foul strokes to start in the middle of the track."

You should check out my site Maicowerk.  I have magazine tests on the new Maicos (not 2010, but mid-2000s), but I believe them to be quite bias.

You may be interested in this unbais Maico on Maico test, I have several of them the late Randall Owens did.  This pits the newer Maicos (10 yrs ago) against the older Maicos:

People like RC are bought and paid for by a small pacific island, likely would either go against their contracts with the big kahunas or could hurt his relationship with a fat paycheck to test, especially favorable, to a small outfit with no ties to him.

So, even if he would do it, he would not score it favorably even if he wanted to (actually shouldn't score any stock production bike good based on what they ride).  Plus, he is not a magazine style tester like Super Hunky as John said, he requires bikes that are molded to his body.  I mean, the bikes he raced they took a plaster cast of his body and formed the bike afterwards.

Also, unlike Super Hunky who would do an honest test I don't think any magazine tester (let alone a big name racer) ever would anyway since even other magazine testers were not doing it 30 years ago since they would loose ad dollars (I'm pretty sure Dirt Bike magazine lost some ad cash for showing how ill-handling some of the bikes were back then).

As far as new Maicos looking like a YZ, I don't really see it but even if it did that's not a way to test a bike.  "Ok, I am testing these new bikes, ok, KTM looks like an orange so must suck.  Honda looks like a red apple, so probably sucks.  Ok, RM looks like a sun since it's yellow, I think thats the best bike because I like the sun".
