Double walled pipe for 2002 KX250
« on: June 29, 2012, 10:27:44 PM »
Does anyone make a double walled (not thicker single walled aka gnarly) pipe for two-strokes?   About to order a Q silencer for my '02, already have a gnarly.    I could wrap the pipe but that would look fugly.

Trying to quieten it down a bit so I can get away with some short motos in my backyard.    ;D

I think some KDX's came with twin wall exhaust, don't know which ones or if you could make it fit, As for the wrap, it doesn't look to bad especially if you paint it black after you install it.

yes the kdx's come with double walled pipes, which is why the weigh lik 30lb! lol i'd honestly just run a regular pipe and get an exhaust guard

And that would reduce sound, how?

The double wall cuts down on exhaust resonance.
Alot of 2 stroke noise comes from the pipe.
If anyone has changed a kdx pipe for a PC pipe you will know what I mean.

Those are interesting.  I've seen/heard one in person (on a KTM300) and the sound was less noisy than what you'd expect.  It gets into the fugly area though.

I wish I could get a Q Stealth silencer but they only made them for '03-07 kx250s.   The best I can find is the Turbine Core "Q SA".

Read a post somewhere about a guy who wrapped his pipe in heat resistant rubber or somesuch.  He said you barely heard the exhaust (he had a quiet silencer with dbSnorkel), but that you could hear the piston and air intake very clearly.  It was stil kind of noisy but probably not as obnoxious to sensitive ears.

The inlet on a KX250 is 50mm, the inlet on a KDX220 is 39mm.  If something were going to work I'd have to get something fabbed up for the inlet area.

As for the wrap, it doesn't look to bad especially if you paint it black after you install it.

True, when it's fresh it could look OK.  I'm thinking down the road after multiple mud rides, washes, ect.   I'm thinking it would be worse than keeping black plastic looking good.

They are effectively out of business:

We are currently out of stock (the last two dB Snorkel kits went to the Balearic Islands).

Due to the current cost to manufacture the dB Snorkel components, we have decided to discontinue sales.

Let?s hope someone out there picks up where we left off.

if your half decent at fabricating, just make your own silencer

bit of ally tubing alot longer than stock
perforated tube
flange plate
rubber clamp for mounting
end cap, just roll and weld a cone.
fiberglass wool for packing the muffler

hopefully it will turn out better than ShervinRRR's attampts
