General Two Stroke Talk / Re: 2 Stroke privateer
« on: May 09, 2010, 01:17:45 AM »
Yeah Cam Taylor was out there on a two stroke, but not on an RM. He was riding a YZ 250 also, and did well in a few motos. He finished as high as 5th in one moto, but has had a few other bad results and DNF's. I dont think Cam is riding all the rounds either, only the southern rounds.

There was a Aussie guy featured awhile back on the home page thats was to racing a smoker in the Aussie series.
On a RM.
Any of you Aussie guys know how he is getting on ?

Yeah that was Kim Ashkenazi. He hasnt ridden a round yet which is very unfortunate cos I was looking for him to do great things. He was a victim of circumstance and the way the entries were set up, it was first in best dressed and unfortunately he wasn't in the first entries received and has been a reserve rider. This has caused much conjecture, and many arguments resulted arguing that there should be timed qualifying for all entered and then the top 40 qualifiers then race. He was set to race the third round of the nationals but the round wasn't run due to the tragic accident that occured in practice. He should be racing in the fourth round next weekend and I expect to see him up the front. Go "Ashcan" !!!!!!!

Yeah, How good is it. I will be heading to the fourth round of the nationals in Toowoomba next week and I will be cheering him on. Great to see. Man didnt know he was doing it with no mechanic. If he needs a hand I will be the first one to put up my hand. Hopefully will see a few more smokers out there for the Toowoomba national. Cant wait. Go Darryl !!!!!!!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Australian Motocross Tragedy
« on: May 01, 2010, 08:15:05 PM »
Hey all,

Just wanted to let you know of the tragedy that occurred at the third round of the Australian Motocross Nationals. One of Australias greatest ever riders Andrew McFarlane was killed in practice at the Broadford track in Melbourne, Australia. Andrew competed both in the USA and on the World GP circuits with great success and was an ambassador for the sport. He helped put Australia on the map and showed the world that riders from down under had the speed and ability to compete successfully at an AMA and world GP level.  He will be greatly missed.

R.I.P Andrew McFarlane

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: New forum is a looker!

Yeah I agree, a great new look. Much easier to use and much easier to read. I can understand if this is what we were supposed to be using all along.

Yes,
Quite remarkable, but it just shows John, as you say, that 2010 is the year of the two stroke. The more two strokes that are out there, especially at a pro level, the more that they will become accepted as a viable race option.  This will only continue to build momentum for two strokes in general, and hopefully in the very near future have manufacturers running around their R&D departments digging out old blue-prints and have them being put back into production. I do hope that Mike Sleeter does well at the first round of the nationals. But what I REALLY want to see is Project two 50 make a massive statement across the several rounds that you guys will be competing in and put two strokes back on the map. Best of luck, it looks as though everything is heading in the right direction, and I cant wait to follow the upcoming series for one reason. TWO STROKE !!!!!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: A lot more news on the new Maicos!
« on: April 18, 2010, 04:17:47 AM »
Yes very interesting and also very exciting. I have followed the Maico website and press releases quite closely and expected to see something of this nature. I thought that it was obvious that major product development had to be in place, just nothing was spoken about. Great to hear that this is the case. I cant wait to see what is released hopefully before the end of the year. Does this mean we may see a race team at a professional level next year as all homolagation requirements would be met???

Yeah completely agree. Recently have been getting support from guys in the pits cos I am on a two stroke. Only a couple of years ago, people looked at you like you had some sort of disability just cos you were riding a two stroke. The tide is definitely turning. Now that you can ride 250 2 strokes at the nationals in the lites class here in Australia, it should do wonders for the acceptability of the 2 strokes. Hopefully the rule filters down to the amateur level, which I believe would really put two strokes back on the map, and give the average guy a choice knowing that they can be competitive, no matter what they choose to ride.

To give you guys an update, Kim is actually the first reserve for the first round of the nationals. There has been a lot of dispute about this, as it is first entered - first in, rather than qualifying sessions in the morning. Hopefully he is able to line up for the first round. The other big news is that Darryl King is also entered to race the national season in the lites class, and unconfirmed, but I think he will be out there carving it up on a YZ 250. Can not wait for the first round !!!!!!!!

General Two Stroke Talk / Quote of the Month
« on: March 09, 2010, 02:35:32 PM »
I came across this quote on a forum and just had to get it posted here. It for me just sums up perfectly the current four stroke situation. Now this definitely isn't my own work and props has to go out to Shagger from Minnesota for this one, not sure if he is a user of this forum, but he is a genius in my eyes!!!!

Check this out :

Go into a field full of sheep every day and let out loud farts while setting fire to one of the sheep.

Sheep aren't very smart. But in about a decade or so they'll start to learn that things that make loud farting noises will light you on fire.

Good hey !!!!!!!!!!!

If you have your own quotes please feel free to post within this topic.

Technical / Re: nikasil or sleeve? which ones better?
« on: February 27, 2010, 09:22:55 PM »
One thing that amazes me that never gets mentioned during this argument is that with a sleeve installed and then going to oversize pistons is that you need to machine the powervalves to suit the next oversize. Then when you have gone through a couple of oversize pistons, you are not just up for a new barrel, but new powervalves as well. This is enough for me, along with all the other downsides to resleeving to not even consider it an option. Replate or replace only.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Two versus Four
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:34:48 AM »
Hey mate,

Thats great to hear. Cant believe that I got dud info, hopefully they update the oz moto x website so that people know that you can race the two bangers in the lites class. It still says 150cc two stroke and 250 four stroke. Now just have to hope/pray that some top pros take advantage of the updated rule and race the two smokers in the lites class. Hopefully ashcan or one of the boys that hauls on a two stroke gets out there racing one this year.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: FIM rules and other personal info
« on: February 23, 2010, 07:14:40 PM »
Hey,
While on the topic of the FIM, just wanted to know if anyone else had read that scathing report that Motocross Action did on the current FIM - Youthstream - World motocross GP regime? It was a very interesting read, and while one sided, made plenty of valid points about the current arrangements. It seems that it isnt just four strokes trying to kill our sport, there is greed at a very top level as well. Would like to hear the opinions of you guys over in Europe on the state of affairs of World Motocross, and if it really is a big cash cow for the governing body. I do remember that there was every indication that the FIM was to change the displacement regulations to allow 250 two strokes to race 250 four strokes last year but that quietly fizzled away.
