Someone want to build a modern CR500?
« on: December 09, 2009, 01:57:14 PM »
Check out this ad on e-bay....

A rolling chassis for a CR500 with all new components, dressed up like the early Elsinore for $3,245.00 Nice!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_rdc=1&item=260517091124&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D260517091124%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&viewitem=

This would sure make anyone's modernization project go much easier and be ready to ride much sooner. Hmmm....

That, my friends, is how you do it.  Maico tried to be retro with their 2009 plastics but I think this CR does a better job of it.  Very nice (but very expensive).

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

Funny, I thought it was cheap when compared to buying a brand new Service Honda CR 500 or maybe one of these mountain bikes.

This Gary Fisher Superfly 100 has an MSRP of $5,599.99 and is not one of the most expensive bicycles you can buy. So a rolling chassis for $3,245.00 seems downright cheap!!

I think they call themselves the Elsinore Factory. Not a bad route but they're some good deals on CR500 conversions out there these days from time to time.

I've justed passed up two different 05+ CFR450 rollers for 1K each. The motor is getting to be the tricky part these days though.

RE: Bikes. Oh, it gets much worse.

Frame alone $4800

I want.

My dad bought his 490 AND 440 Maicos for less than the cost of that bike, and I guarantee they deliver a better "smile per mile" rating than a bicycle, unless one is firmly against the pollution of a two-stroke, which I don't think is a big issue here.

I've probably logged more hours on a bike then a dirt bike in my life and I enjoy both.

Dare I say: "Different strokes for different folks" here?
