sure they werent painted? Mike Cinqmars had like a metallic candy apple red CR, looked awesome

No, they were metallic orange.  it was the 07-09 style bike.

It is the exact opposite in my neck of the woods. Open class is sketchy because everybody just pins it and who or what ever gets in the way is either getting run over or an accident will happen.

How far is Diamond MX in Delaware from you?  I'll be there tomorrow.  Lets see what the YZ is made of.

General Two Stroke Talk / 1999 KTM 380SX opinions
« on: May 24, 2012, 01:56:35 PM »
Hi all, new to the forum and found a local 99 380 for sale. I have a 640LC4 so the power shouldn't be an issue. I have a few questions..

1) How reliable are the engines & transmissions?

2) I've read a lot about jetting, head mods, JD jet kits, ect.. can someone 'splain why and how important all of this is?

3) I am very tall for a female.. not coordinated enough for basketball but love moto. How will this 380 fit me? I read where a tall rider on ktmtalk rewelding footpegs, raising bars with custom risers.. is the frame on the '99 tiny?

4) Was the '99 sold with an actual title, or MSO? If the latter, did the MSO come with "not for highway use"?

5) Is there a high output (100w or more) stator available for the 380?

6) Is there a large capacity tank available?

Thanks all.. love my '99 KTM 640 LC4.. but it's lonely in my garage after selling my RM125!

1.  big bore two strokes are reliable as hell, it's a relative term though.  as reliable as a honda civic? probably not.  more reliable than a 04 crf250r?  absolutely.

2. jetting is everything.

3. how tall is "tall for a female"?  a tall filipina is 5'6''.  Ivan Drago's girlfriend in Rocky 4 is 6'1''.  KTMs fit taller people best, because they arent designed and built by twinks.  (japanese men)

4. dunno.

5.  yea.

6. yea.

I have not talked to Ronny in many-many years. Probably not since Van Wagoner's death! (wow, been awhile) My brother still sees him though and I hear he has an MX school now and his Dad sold the dealership and retired.

not much has changed, his old lady still runs Bent Frame clothing and he has been training pros for 7-8 years.

he trained Chad Reed and still does I believe.  Tim Ferry.  and his newest pupil is Eli Tomac and it shows.  He told me when he trained Chad Reed, he couldn't even talk to the guy.  He would tell Chad's mechanic, and the mechanic would go tell Chad.

Someone posted a photo of Eli Tomac doing that huge nose wheelie into one of the turns in Seattle and I saw someone say "If you are one of RT's riders, that's how you better be going into turns!"

Check this out....

I watched the MX2 on Fuel or MotorsTV but I am in Portugal. I know you can find it online.

I had heard about AB and Busch Gardens. Family is still in St. Pete.

If you are in that area, go to Sunshine in Pinellas Park (or Clearwater - not sure of the city line). They have Thursday practice night for $10 plus regular races and the FLVMX series runs there (and Hard Rock!).

USA will doninate the MxdN. David Knight is the most awesome rider of his generation, but he doesn't stand a chance against the worlds top MX'ers on their turf. As I stated in the original post, the format (ceeding countries rather than letting the best riders in) limits the growth of the national riders. Imagine if only 2 riders from each state in the US could compete - 100 riders qualified down to 40 for the mains. That is kind of what goes on with the World Championship. The US National Series is much deeper in the number of riders, pays out more money (sponsorships, TV, etc) and thus draws the best riders from around the world. That Ups the game of the Americans so when we go to MxdN, we have a pretty good chance of running away with it.

I used to race at Sunshine all the time.  Ronny Tichenor used to hang out with us there.  Notice how Tomac came out firing this SX season, like a whole new beast?  Because he hired Ronny in the off-season.

He used to tell stories about when he rode for factory Suzuki in Japan in 92-93, Kevin Schwantz making 180mph passes in the parking lot behind the shop on his 500.

If Knighter enters, I would get worried with the rest of the USA, provided the track has logs, boulders and torrential rain.

General Two Stroke Talk / Casey Stoner....

You older guys will like this.

Kevin Schwantz just put this up on the net, regarding Stoner's retirement.

Quote from: Kevin the fuck Schwantz
"If you're going to quit, just man up and quit. If you don't want to do it any more, then retire. That's your choice. But don't continue to talk trash about a racing series that is the premier two-wheel motorsport in the world, and has a long, long-standing history of great competition, great champions. Tip your hat and walk away from the sport and be graceful about it. Don't talk shit."

And that is why I always say "34 Forever".  I love Schwantzy in a non-faggot way.

If Dungey and Stewart stay healthy, it'll be a clown session.   I can't wait for the MXoN this year, because many Euros swear that Lommel will be the place where the US goes down.

So are us Floridians.

But we are even better in the sand, so, MXoN should be an easy weekend too.

I grew up in Tampa.  Did you know Annheiser pulled out of Busch Gardens and with it went the "Hospitality House"?

Besides, if you put a track there, Randy Yoho would have it shut down like he does everything that is within 100 miles of Dade Shitty.

Retiring from Moto GP at the end of this season.Says, "With all the changes in Moto GP,it's just not fun anymore"
I think he needs to get his hands on Doohan's Honda  :o

The 500cc era was discussed during this announcement.  Basically, back then, you could put last year's bike on the grid and put it on the podium. Now, the OEMs refuse to do it, and often can't because the formula keeps changing.  He pretty much called out the OEMs, namely Suzuki on how pathetic it is that they won't field bikes.

He is right.  MGP is a ~17 bike grid, about 8-9 of which are CRTs which aren't even close to competitive.

It is basically a Honda vs. Yamaha series.  Ducati is a joke.

MotoGP is now officially dead.  Fuck it.  I'll watch Schwantz vs. Rainey / Roberts vs Sheene replays.  The racing was better anyway.  The guys had heart and the bikes were satanic.

The fact of the matter is, no one can make a thread on this board without Jeram scrutinizing it, and this guy is scrutinizing not only a bike I have ridden but another one of my own bikes on a completely unrelated message board.  The guy is a troll that transcends multiple message boards.  It never fails, that every board has one and in this case, 2 boards have the same one in common.

I think it ties in with "if a 89 YZ250 falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it..."

General Two Stroke Talk / Chris Blose in for Hangtown on a YZ 250
« on: May 14, 2012, 09:04:45 PM »
sweet hope hes out there this weekend at h-town

all I know is that the closest national to Ricky's house is Budds Creek, and I will be there.  If he really does show to any of them, even one, it'll be Budds.  I'll find him if he is there, I am thinking about flagging the finish line for the national.  I'd really like to just walk around and get drunk, maybe heckle a few certain industry people, but flagging gets you so close that you get hit with tear offs.

Ricky effing Renner will be out there baking Mulberry pies on a YZ125, according to the DEP distributor at Budds Creek this weekend.

NO WAY!!

That's what I said.  I was standing there with a pipe for my 125SX of Doom, and I said "hey you give Ricky pipes don't you?"

he said "yea, and he is going to be doing the nationals this year on the 125."

I said, "you've got to be shitting me."

he said, "no sir."
