A little update on my 09 YZ125
« on: November 18, 2012, 12:39:19 AM »
Hey guys,

You might remember that I bought an '09 YZ125 for $2200ish over a month ago.  I disassembled it that night to grease the bearings, and sure enough they were shot.  Replaced those.  While I was at it, I pulled the top end.  It needed rings, but I said to hell with it and sent the cylinder and head to Tom Morgan Racing for his porting package and high-octane head mods.  I put in a Wiseco GP series piston with a TiN ring.  The suspension went to Enzo Racing, and was rebuilt and revalved.  Craig Decker at Enzo also added Race Tech Aluminum Free Pistons and Diverse SiCr Fork/Shock Springs.  Other little bits were purchased, like the Fasstco Brake Spring and Clevis, Works Connection Elite Perch and Hour Meter (right above the kickstarter), Pro Circuit Throttle Tube, Carbon Mud Flap (eBay), and a genuine Yamaha GYT-R Titanium Subframe.  The subframe was made for the 02's before they ceased production of them, but it fits perfectly to the newer aluminum frame.  I found it new on eBay and bought it now for $180.00. Win.

I went up a tooth in the back with a Renthal Rear Sprocket, and stayed stock size in the front, also Renthal.  Bought some plugs, plus'ed up on some brass for the carb, and put in a new No-Toil.  All I have to do is get the chain on and It'll be time to waste these tires (new ones are waiting!).

Anyhow, I'm freaking pumped!  I'm going to start with the stock pipe and reeds and change the variables from there.  Fuel is VP C12 and 93 Octane mixed 50:50 and Bel-Ray H1R mixed 32:1.
Enjoy!

it's so refreshing to see sensible mods/upgrades on your rebuild.
No Caffine drink sticker kit, no anodisng bling or cut down seat.
Fresh top end, suspension upgrades, jetting and gearing, smart first move, attend a few pro coaching clinics and your well on your way to victory lane.....and girls love that ;D

I only have one bit of advice, twist the happy stick, and hang on...  Unfortunately your face muscles are going to be very sore from grinning so much...   ;D

Thanks for the praise, guys.  I believe 00-01 were their own deal. 02-up will fit current models.

Your bike should rip, good choices on the mods. Tom does good work, Enzo is almost a part of Yamaha, wiseco gp great piston and very durable.

Click for a clip of it running.  Pretty crisp!  Definitely had to turn on the fan afterward.  You can see my liberal amount of oil used during assembly is getting burned out, combined with the rings not broken in and sealing well... its pretty rich!

Very nice YZ.  You're going to love that TMR top end, his motors rip!
Love the Ti subframe, very trick.

Should be a hoot to ride.

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.
