Whats the point of a 150 handicap class ?
Only 1 manufactor makes them. No one else is interested in making them.
The governing bodies need to tell Honda to piss off and build bikes like everyone else.
I have never understood why Honda has so much power politically.

With the success of the 125 class ( and i think it will only get better ) how long do you think Honda will be able to stay away.

With the junior world champs next year being 2 stroke only things are look up.

Hi John. The JRF torque controller is a hydraulic bleed valve that works against the centrifugal exhaust valve control. Similar to KTM's having different colored springs that control how fast the power valve opens.
Unlike a duel ignition map it does not change peak power at all just how big the hit is.
Although i said you can change on the move it is not very practical. But the good thing is if you turn up to a track that is fast and flowing you can turn it to 1 and you have a massively powerfull motor to roost to the moon and back. If the track is a slippery bog you can turn it to 5-7 and tractor round like the handicap bikes.
No tools needed, no jet changes just turn the clicker and go.
Remember these motors are a race tuned engine that is very peaky as TotalNZ has said. They are a handful to hold on to in the standard settings.
The units are availible from Cross Country Action in Cessnock NSW Aussie.
They were developed to try and tame the TM's for the average rider. It works.
Not sure if you can get one for a YZ but the unit replaces the powervalve cover on the right hand side of the motor.I think it connects directly to the control rod.
I am keen to find out myself anyway.
Will be putting a new ring in soon so will find out when i pull the barrel.
2smoker might be able to help i saw him reply on another site about the same thing. Or you can contact them on sales@crossaction.com.au
Not sure if you would need one on a well tuned YZ but would be a good addition on a highly tuned YZ.
TotalNZ i deal with Motoworks.

Hi Maicoman.
Before i bought mine i read a couple of bike tests done on them that they had a scary powerband but bit the bullet anyway.I had a RM250
I dont have the duel ignition map.
Mine has a JRF torque controler on it which is a hydraulic dampner conected to the power valve rod.
It basically works by limiting how quick the power valve opens.
It has 8 adjustable settings.1 is factory standard which gives you bugger all low down and then a massive hit from mid to top. 8 stops the power valve opening at all and will run like a tractor.
I run mine on 3 which gives a nice bottom a strong mid and it still screams up top. I have tried 5 which helps when conditions are really slippery. You can change on the move with a bit of practice.
I under stand all Australian & NZ bike for 2010 come standard with them now.
The power delivery i think is great. Yes way more then a 250 but controlable if you use the throttle correctly. The best thing is the mid which is very strong so when you get tired you can still go quick without having to worry what gear you are in.Handling wise i dont have a issue with head shake and it turns just as well as my RM. I find i can lay the bike over further without worrying about washing out the front.Yes they are a bit of eye candy. Every ride i have guys coming up and asking questions about "what is that".The TM will run with most 450s. I drag raced a friend on a 450sx up a long 5 gear hill climb and he could not pull away.He was shaking his head at the top.He couldnt believe it. He is a 4 stroke nut though so we can feel sorry for him.

Hi john is right.
My TM300 comes standard with the following.
Hand built port and polished engine.
HGS exhaust.
V force reeds and cage.
Custom billet tripple clamps.
Custom billet hubs.
Talon rims.
Ohlin suspension front and rear.
Oversize front disc with Brembo caliper.

As you can see if you add up the extras the more expensive bikes are not that expensive.
Just my 2c worth

Great bikes.
More billet parts then anything.
Stand out from the crowd with a bike as factory as you can get of the shelf.
No one would be disappointed.
Here is my 300

Honda has been the major player for years trying to destroy the 2 stroke.
Don't you find it rather two faced that they won the 250GP title last year.
The comentators keep saying that the bike had not been developed for 5 years but by midway through the season the honda could keep up with the Aprilia's on the straight's. By the seasons end Aoyama had more power down the straight's then the Aprilia. Even De Rosa was fighting for wins near seasons end after getting new parts from Honda.
This from a bike that has not had the power for the last few years ?

No development my A**.

Honda put considerable resourses into winning that championship for marketing reasons , But they are the main reason for the classes demise.
Honda obviously has talented 2 stroke engineers but the company wants to destroy the 2 strokes.
KTM,TM,Gas Gas,Husqvarna and co should poach the staff for them selfs.

Now Honda supplies all the engines for the new GP2 class which is just plain wrong.
Lap times for the new class at first round.
New GP2's fastest lap 2.02.537       600cc
09 250 fastest lap      2.01.750      250cc
Thats progress for ya!!!

Total , yes the 300 is a MX bike but was just meaning there is no class for it except the vet class.
By the way mine is an EN but has all the enduro bits removed.
Apart from flywheel weight and gearing it's the same bike right ?

Hi Turquine. I dont think the AMA has consulted with anyone who has an interest with racing!!!

I do like the new KX500AF and would love a ride but the riding i do it would be too much a handfull.
I find the 300 about right.
With my RM250 I found I was getting left on long hill climbs but with the 300 I havn't had a 450 pass me yet.

General Two Stroke Talk / Education & Running costs
« on: April 11, 2010, 09:04:10 PM »
I have found in the last few years the biggest problem with motocross and 2 strokes in general is education or lack of.
I have lost count of the amount of times a young guy on his 250F has said to me why are you riding that 2 stroke my 4 stroke is faster.
It is most common with CRF riders.
I dont race but meet alot on trial rides where everyone is just having a hoon.
I run a Marine Dealership in New Zealand selling Evinrude ETEC's so know a little bit about the difference between 2 & 4 Strokes.
I have had a gutsfull of the BS and lies coming out of Honda dealers. From conversations i have had with customers about 2 strokes being banned from our lakes, inc ETEC's, (Complete lies) to weedeater's being banned ( lies again ) . My neighbour has told me how good is Honda weedeater is which makes it hard to keep a straight face.
Go to a Honda dealer and tell him you have a YZ or SX and see what he say's.
I will never buy anything with a Honda badge on it because of the way they have manipulated and lied to the FIM/AMA, the public and effecting my business.
I gew up riding Hondas and still have my first bike (a QE50 bought new in 1973), but have made a personal decision not to support them.
Dont shoot me Honda riders I know they make good bikes but I dont like the way they run the business.
Anyway the cost issue.
The currant NZ MX2 champ Michael Phillips rides a CRF250 with full Pro-Ciruit engine,Ohlins TTX Forks & Shock plus god knows what other goodies. I will leave it to you to work out what sort of money that costs.
The new price for a CRF250 is $10,995 here in NZ.Phillips is a Honda NZ rider.
How can a privateer compete with that ?. Easy.
Suzuki NZ are selling brand new RM250's for $7,995. K8's. Remember we have a 250 is 250 rule.
Throw 1K at the suspension, a couple of grand on a new worked barrel and new pipe to suit and you would have a very competitive bike. The bike would probably cost half the CRF
Next find one of the 125 stars not signed to one of the big five who wants to step up a class and you have the makings of a top running team.
With the economic downturn the big five have cut down their works riders to 1 per class so there is plenty of talent left to pick from.

Until 2 strokes start winning again and are in the public eye people won't buy them and the factories will stop making them.
When younger riders see 2 strokes winning and realise the affordability they will start to ask their dealers for them and the 2 stroke will be saved.
Darryl King cleaned up the summer series here on what looked like a stock YZ250 but did not race the nationals. Not sure why but he is the Subway Yamaha boss here and has said he has retired. He is doing well in Aussie at the moment as well. Good retirement !.

This scenario will work anywhere that has a 250 = 250 rule.
It is starting to happen slowly but more top riders need to jump ship.
Come on KTM NZ & Aus, Put 1 rider on a 250F & 1 on a 250SX in the same championship and see what happens.
At least there will be more Yellow/Blue and Orange bikes out the.

Nice picks John. I resently sold a 02 KTM 200. Man that thing could corner and it had a surprising amount of power.(I rebuilt the motor to factory specs).I would love to try a new 150Sx sounds like a fun bike.
I dont race (Too old) but love the sport.
The problem with the old open class bikes Turquine is that they would have problems keeping up with the new smaller bikes around tighter tracks.
For desert racing that you like the big bores are the way to go but not so good on a track.

My post was meant for motox bikes. I know the TM300 is not classified as a motox bike but it is my new toy and if the rules were changed to 250cc+ 2 or 4 stroke class it would make a competitive bike.

I was running Motul 10W40 in my Rm250 and it had a horrible grabbing clutch.
Changed to ATF and the bike had a great clutch.

Hi everyone. Great site with lots of like minded people sharing their thoughts on smokers.
Whats your favorite 3 MODERN Bikes ?
I would like to try something novel in this post. I will post a chocolate fish out to every reply until someone mentions either Maico , 1983 , 490 or 440. I will then chew off my right wrist so i can't type or ride anymore.
They may have been great bikes in their day but i was still learning to ride a CR80 and watching M*A*S*H on TV.
Here are my favorites.
1: 2007 TM300. Steel frame and Ohlins. Great combination. Complete with adjustable power valve.
2: 06-08 YZ250. Just a great allrounder.
3: 06-08 RM250. Great handling. Just sold mine for TM.
