General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Back in the saddle on a two smoker!

Welcome ccoady 454 it's like waking up from mind numbing dream going from the 4stroke quad to that RM isn't it.Thanks for the letters to the forces that be we need as many boots on the ground as possible.

Oh DEFINITELY.  My brute was fast, for a 600lb machine (topped out around 70mph, 64 with 27" tires on it) but not THIS kind of fast.  Hell, I had a 2006 GSXR1000 that was scary fast but doesn't FEEL as fast as the acceleration on my lil' ol 250.  I just LOVE having the explosiveness that I've been missing over the years past.

Back in 2004, I'd ride my brother in-laws 1997 KX250 here and there, but it was pretty worn (probably way past due for rings) and felt like a 125 compared to this thing.  I'm ready to rip things up now that I have a track 3 miles from my house! (Taylorville, Illinois)

I'm not sure if I'm reading the rules right on AMA events.  The rules say up to 250 two stroke and up to 450 four stroke, but I'm reading on various posts that in amateur class you can ride 250 twostrokes against 250 four strokes?  I'll for sure be in the c-class, but what engine class will I be in?  Oh, and it's an AMA sanctioned track.

General Two Stroke Talk / Back in the saddle on a two smoker!

Hello all,
I'm new the the forum, but have been reading the site for quite some time.  I used to race back in the late 80's thru the 90's.  DS100, RM125, KX250.  Then, I got married, military, road bike, blah blah blah.  My 55 year old dad (who raced in the 70's and 80's) just purchased a KLX250 to putt around on and ride in some old timer enduros, which got my thinking....my 9 year old son who i avid into BMX had been asking for a dirt bike.  So for his 10th birthday I got him a 2004 RM85.  Just for fun, I hopped on it.  I forgot how much fun 2 strokes are!  I'm 6'7", 220 lbs and it made me giggle a little.  I hopped on my dads KLX250, and it felt like the power of a golf cart.  Anyaway, to get to my point, the next day, I went to my local bike/atv dealer, and traded in my monster 2008 Kawasaki Brute Force 750 4x4 Quad for a brand new 2008 RM250.  Everyone kept telling me to get a 450 four stroke, especially if I wanted to get back into racing.  I like rebuilding my own engine, and like the explosive power of the 2 stroke.  I already know I'll be in the slower group on the track (for a while), no matter what stroke-engine I ridebut I know I'll be having more fun on the 2 stroke!

p.s. On a side note, I (respectfully) wrote the AMA a letter asking if they are planning to ammend the rules to decrease the 4 stroke handicap, or just make it cc for cc (especially for the lite classes since the 250f lap times are almost on par with the 450f lap times).  I'm well aware of the influence of the big 4, California, and the EPA being thorns in our side.

Thanks for the great site!!!
