The hunt for more power :)
« on: May 09, 2010, 07:19:24 PM »
as far as mods go, what else is there to do ? my bike has been ported has better reed valves, has a gnarly pipe, still has a stock cut down silencer ( do aftermarket ones make much difference)

what else is there to do in the world of 2 strokes for more power besides bigger capacity ???

My fingers would fall off from typing before I could completely answer that question.
Explain wht you mean by 'ported' which ports and by how much are they altered?
Off the shelf pipes really only work with stock engines(and not that good either)

Set the squish band properly for the fuel you are using.
If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough

2t's right Rota, that's too broad of a question. Have you got a copy of "The 2 stroke tuners handbook"?. Don't forget that the more you try to pump out of your engine the less reliability you'll have. Why not bigger bore?
aaahhhhh yes, I remember the good old days

My recommendation is to throw your bike in the garbage and get a newer one.  Somewhere on the bike it should say what year the bike was made, and I hear that horsepower goes up in relation with the square of that number.  And as always, don't forget to always run Nitromethane as your fuel of choice.  Gasoline is for cleaning the engines, alcohol is for drinking, and Nitro is for racing.  Crackle on!

Is this Maico a 440 or only a 400?  Well in all the confusion, I forgot myself.
But considering this is a 1978 Magnum, the best-handling bike in the world, you have to ask yourself one question.
Do you feel lucky, punk?

Not worth the effort for power or noise. The silencers that come with the pipes, aftermarket or OEEM are engineered to provide the max form a design. In fact look back at a few reviews for Honda in particular. The stock pipe/silencer is hard to beat. All you'll do is gain very little up top if at all and lose the spread.
