Technical / I have no idea what but I am sure it is bad
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:16:29 AM »
Thats an odd issue... But like cnrcpla said maybe the clutch is slipping but strange that its only happening in fifth. Your oil level isn't too high? I've heard of people having similar issues and less oil solved it. My 2001 YZ 250 takes 700 mils of oil and shifts like a dream

Technical / Compression adjusted issues (left fork)
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:11:49 AM »
Hey whats up guys sorry for my inactivity of recent times i've had big internet issues.

Okay so I go to adjust my clicker for my 2001 YZ 250, its the left fork if you are sitting on the bike. It clicks just fine, but it goes on forever and makes no difference to the soft or hardness of the fork. The one on the right is fine, it goes for twenty clicks either way so I know theres something ****y with the left one. I was thinking maybe the bearings in it were stripped? Whats everyone elses though?

Thanks for your time,

Stuart

General Two Stroke Talk / Who knows yz forks and shocks
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:07:14 AM »
the 2005 model YZ got those fancy whats its name, speed sensitive shocks or something. They adjust themselves to the terrain and the force with which you impacted with it. Everything prior was just the good old kayabas.

General Two Stroke Talk / more and more are doing this
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:02:02 AM »
more and more people indeed. Sorry for my inactivity had some internet issues. Big ones. Anyway. I remember back when I was about 7 years old and we went out to a sunday race (which happens about once every 4 months now cos no fucker can afford their machines) and you'd hear the announcer say "racers have 5 minutes to come to the gates, repeat: 5 minutes for the 125 14-17yrs to come to the gates" open this, you would hear a series of RIIINGGG-Tin tin tin dinga ding of bikes starting up and get so excited. It was golden watching those guys go round. Now you hear a series of FFFFFRRRRTTTT FK FK FK FRRRUUUPPP and immediately block your ears and head for the car to go home. I've been out to the track 3 times in the last year. The first time I counted 3 screamers dominating the track. The second time, 1 month later it was 5, and about 3 weeks ago it was 10 (granted there were more people there, but still). More and more people are going back to two strokes, whether they like them more or because they can't afford their 4 jokes or both, its happening right now and its quickly turning around. KTM outsold every skinny manufacturer in 2011. Gee I wonder what the big difference is...

Technical / Whats he truth in terms of premix ratio?
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:59:00 AM »
I've put premium fuel in her this time, it was actually a mishap last time I didn't read the label at the gas pump properly haha, what an idiot! Anyway I noticed how much more punchy she is now that its running 98 octane, BEAUTIFUL! I use synthetic 32:1 cos people reckon its better for the engine, although I think I might've made the mixture a bit richer then 32:1 this time round cos I filled the fuel tank up too far and had to dribble a bit more in. No biggie Thanks for the opinions guys

Technical / Whats he truth in terms of premix ratio?
« on: March 10, 2012, 06:28:16 AM »
This is a rather sily question to some of you no doubt, nevertheless I would appreciate if someone shed some proper light on this for me. Ive heard alot of opinions out there when it comes to premix ratios you wouldnt think something like this would be so controversial. anyway what does everyone run? Ive been doing 32:1 for a few about two or two and a half tanks of fuel nowkn regular fuel nd its worki g well. but i just wanted some exra opinions. My Yz250 has TONS of bottom for a smoker and this is great for me because i want it to last as long as i can before i do a top end in it. So should i adjust my ratio? What does everyone use for the diffeent types of riding ie. woods trails motocross? thanks guys

Technical / Braking tips (YZ250)
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:18:38 PM »
As I've said a dozen times over, if you wanna be fast, the bike MUST be set up to your every rhythm and love. Like a girl... If I had the dollars I would love to get my suspension set up for me but the dollar problem is whats stopping me unfortunately. I was getting really bad shoulder cramps before as a direct consequence of the handlebars being too high

Thanks for all the great advice guys, I appreciate it (Coop you're excluded here, but I do appreciate the humor haha)

I am definitely getting better at braking in the right time and controlling it while standing up. I did alot of relubing on my bike today since its been sitting in the shed while I was waiting for my fuel tank. Also did alot of personalisation stuff like handle bar position, lever position, softened up the shockies a little bit and got them timed perfectly (the previous owner had them hugely out of sink, part of the reason the original fuel tank got broke). I'm also improving my speed through the corners alot too, so my technique is coming along very nicely. Thanks again guys

Going over the bolts is a tedious process, I wish you luck! I took me a stupidly long time to get my baby back into its proper shape! Between me sucking at using a socket set and the plastics just be a pain in the ass it took me something like 30 minutes. But its all good now, Good luck to you

I got my tank, that was one of the best rides ever... Unfortunately the previous owner (for some bizzare reason) put a dual sport tire on the front.... When riding in soft dirt, that doesn't hook up very well. At all. When I lean't her over a little too far the front just washed right out and I lost my clutch perch screw, it must have been really loose for that to happen. No biggie I've got a cold so I was getting very worn out anyway. Funny, I went back home to take my knee guards off cos they were giving me heaps (I really need some socks) and when I went back down that was when I dumped it, I'm glad it was slow and I'm not out of the game now for a knee injury, that would make me swear alot. Did you get your cylinder today? Its the 9th in Australia

Hai all, pretty easy question for you more experienced riders but as some of you know I've made the transition from Dumper to screamer and I'm looking for some advice on braking tips. I might not ride official MX but I still like to go as hard as possible for as long as possible. Tips for the following would be great:

Rider position during braking
Mental strategies for the fear of overshot and washing out
When to start braking and stop braking

Thanks guys

I'm sorry my mechanical knowledge is sketchy at best, the WOT? You've only got about 5 days to go, happy screaming

Hahahaha man thats awesome. I remember when my dumper engine died it just stopped dead, it was so quick I didn't even realise until like five seconds afterward. Damn though thats shitty luck. 3 miles... hahaha thats so awesome. the 1990's were the best years for bikes I reckon, both four and two strokes. My XR100R is a 1999 model and it just goes and goes and goes. Only nine more days for you, we should be chewing dirt around the same date  8). I remember when I was riding the dumper also, the engine started steaming. I nearly had a heartattack and was just about ready to drop the bike and head for cover when I realised my coolant overflow tube was melted shut from touching the header pipe, cos four strokes run soooo much cooler then smokers  :P anyway when the pressure had built up it had burst out the side all over my engine which was what created the steam. Scared the shit out of me though

Non-Moto / KTM overtaking the big four?
« on: February 28, 2012, 07:54:08 AM »
Welcome to the forum michwoodsrider, great to see another smoker fan!
Good for KTM indeed, they do deserve it. They've stuck in there with the smokers when it would've been so easy and so profitable to build dumpers only. I hope they continually succeed, next bike I buy will be a brand new KTM. Looking forward to it
