^^depends on who built it.

Im sure MXA didnt spare any expense, bringing back a ragged out motocross bike is expensive. Id like to see an actual retail dollar amount it would cost to duplicate the bad ass YZ125 Charles built.

^ probably still $1000 short of what they spent ;D. Another thing to remember is that shops are raising their rates up as well, and with the extra labor involved with 4t's the price they spent is not at all far fetched. The little stuff mentioned is simple maintenance, which every bike needs at certain time. Hell I've just spent $400 on little stuff on my yz250 and still have stuff to fix/update like plastics and suspension(06 and up sss yamaha forks/shock ;D).

That's why I was being generous by deducting $500.00 for items most of us may not repair, plus I only added $800.00 for labor.  True some items needed updated, but was a full set of plastics and graphics really needed to get the bike running?  Could the suspension have been cleaned up just fluid changes.  I agree that they didn't list what I feel was the total cost, but it's a fair representation of what someone would have to spend to fix their bike after a catastrophic failure.

Yeah, the project bike was close to what MXA spent to get the 4 stroke going. :)

I just bought a 2006 yz 250 in great condition for $1,800 and got new crank bearings, crank, rod, top end kit, cylinder replated, new head for $850 in parts and $250 in labor.

Charles' total investment into that bike, tricking it out and everything that he did to make it the rocket ship it is today... Cost less than it did to rebuild this 250f...

Yeah I guess its kind of apples and oranges. Either way 2 or 4 its probably pretty easy to spend several thousand dollars to completely rebuild a bike. There would definitely be a price difference though, the cylinder head and exhaust is quite a bit more to replace on a 4t.
