Open Forum / Re: Vintage 2T road legal trailies?

I am quite impressed with SachsGS list but surprised he left off any of the Penton/KTM's or any of the other Sachs or Zundapp powered machines!

You ask about vintage bikes but we've found a way to make just about ANY bike legal to ride on the street. My brother has a YZ139 fully road legal - and insured! I have a (please don't hate me!) CRF250X the same.

A 125 would provide you the ride you are looking for though as stated, you will need to change springs to suit your additional weight (though depending on your current skill level, you may just be able to get away with it for awhile).

However, there is another option. Several companies are producing 'between' bikes. Some are aftermarket while others are factory! I'm talking about the bikes in the range of 139, 144, 150 and 200. This provides the best of both worlds, the light and flickablity of the 125 and the grunt of the 250. Honestly, all are about the same (more or less) so it comes down to your wallet thickness and your favorite color.

And along those lines, you can always go bigger, but you can't get smaller. In otherwords, you can buy a 125 and later upgrade it to a 139 or 144 but you can never make a 250 into a 125.  Just another thing to think about.

I think AMA Proracing may be holding off until after the court case. It would be improper to impose sanctions against J$ until he is convicted in a court of law (and not the People's Court!).

Cracks me up though. My brother, not a J$ fan by any stretch of the word, was all over it (the story). Within minutes of it's release! He wanted to see him arrested, banned from MX, from TV, locked up and the key tossed into the sea! I had to take the other road and say he will probably get off and play it as an MTV stunt gone wrong with a 'donation' made to the Police Benevolent Fund or something. Yamaha and the AMA will forget about it when the storm blows over. It'll make for good TV on Bubba's World and Bubba will blame his brother or french boyfriend as he does with everything wrong in his poor life.

In my day (I know that sounds bad...), only kids and women rode 125's. When I hit 30, I found out that my lap times WERE FASTER on the 125 than either my 250 or 500 (125 enduro model at that!).

Here in the Azores now, we are really feeling the pain of the economic down turn and we are losing riders left and right. Most are because their 450F broke and is worthless but many never progress to being 'good' riders because they have too much power and never learn to ride on the limit before they get hurt or their available cash is dried up.

I know I am new to the forum and don't know you guys but "YOU QUITTER!"

Sorry.  :P

I was a smoker for 21 years and quit cold turkey in '92. I kept my routine (smoke breaks, etc.) and hung out with the smokers. I kept drinking and going to bars. This is what I learned.

1. Gums, patches, etc. did nothing for me.
2. When I dream, I am often smoking. Even now. Not a dream about smoking, just something I am doing while I'm doing whatever I am dreaming about.
3. The cravings NEVER go away. You just learn to manage it.
4. I only gained 10 pounds in the first month but lost it right away when i stopped eating pretzles and cigarette shapped foods as a substitute.
5. Guilt is what drove me. I felt (and still feel) that I will have failed if I smoke, even one cigarette. I don't accept failure well.

Keep up the fight. Know it is not going to change you much now but in your later years, you'll appreciate it.

Ha! The first Maico I ever rode had a Vice-Grip as a footpeg! Now that brings memories flooding back in (I thought I repressed)!

Reiju is an interesting concept and it's not really fair to compare it to other motocrossers or even enduro bikes. It is not on par with them. You might compare it to an XR, a true trail bike, though it is watercooled and not as good as an XR. I've looked at it and came to the personal conclusion that it is in fact junk but that is not a bad thing. It fills a nitch and it will allow the company to grow into the market. Maybe their next model will be more race oriented.

Vintage Two Strokes / Re: Name 3 of your favourite old school riders..
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:04:07 AM »
The 3 that had the earliest impact on me:

1. Malcolm Smith
2. Morris Norman
3. JN Roberts

My three favorite MX'ers as a kid:
1. Marty Smith
2. Lackey
3. Mikkola

Biggest Heros today?
1. Malcolm
2. Fredette
3. DeCoster

I remember a story about Decoster as a manager of Team Suzuki from Chicken. Chicken and two other Suzuki pros (don't remember who now) were doing laps on the test track. Roger wasn't happy with their performance. They blamed the bike. He got on it and turned faster laps than the young pros. No warm up. No preparation. That's Roger.

You might consider the :cough: pink of the late '80s or early '90's. Didn't Bradshaw ride a Magenta one?
