does the smoker idles nowaday?
« on: July 11, 2011, 07:37:08 AM »
i used to own a 92 RM125, 02 YZ125 and both smokers does not idle

however, the used 10 150SX i got recently, it does idle, is it suppose to idle?
or could be the previous owner turn up the idling screw to keep it running?

please advice.

My Yz idles, every 2 smoke I have ever owned idles, if your jetting is perfect and your fuel is good it will idle properly.

If properly adjusted, any two stroke will idle.

You can turn the idle screw up so they will idle but properly set without your hand on the throttle, they will idle for a few seconds and then stall.
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Ford is correct. This way when you want to be off the throttle it will not give a little suprising surge. Four strokes idle fine, just like my truck.

A carbureted 4 stroke doesn't idle so nice either.  ;) Why I sold my XR250R.

My KTM will idle all day if I let it.  It's all in how you want it set-up.  Some prefer no idle, others (like me) prefer it to idle.  It's a personal choice.

Rookie it's all about how you want your bike jetted. I like eprovenzano like my Katoom to have a steady idle & no stalling!  :)

It all depends. For best response,it should idle for a few seconds then die.If you're just learning or have troubles putting the clutch/throttle/shift thing together,by all means, idle it up. ;D  ;)

OK Ford, I used to think you were OK.... not anymore...  just keep your idle down low so it will stall when the power of the smoker scares you.... so by all means idle down   ;D :P ;D 8)

I have mine set to idle shortly. It dies after a minute or so after it's warm.

Lol,I never have an issue with stalling. On the other hand,I rarely sit there and let the bike idle as that's not really what they're made for.
I do tend to be crash prone though and I do like the fact that when I do,the engine quits-and so does the rear wheel.
Oh yeah,I'm not OK,you really should have guessed that already  :D ;)

Making up for lost time is good ;D
I always liked the bike to stall when it crashes. The first time I crashed my Berg(in third gear) my hand and head/neck came down about an inch from a wildly spinning rear wheel, chain and sprocket. After that I installed a tether that attached to my chest protector.I initially had it attached to my wrist but branches loved to claw at it and shut the bike off at the worst moments :( :D
