General Two Stroke Talk / Re: 4 $troke lovers= delusional people

Hmmm... 11 pages so far about something that was created with the stroke of a pen.

The real issue is that through marketing the average joe believes that it's fair for a four-stroke to be larger than a two-stroke. While at the same time claiming they are better. Not sure how that adds up, but it's what's causing the rift even between fellow two-strokers.

Here's something that will cause a bit of trouble. I love four-strokes!

There is a place for them. While at the races I watched some of the older vet guys and their four-strokes will probably last for 10 years or more.

The problem is that the rule change created years ago has confused old timers and bamboozled younger racers who grew up after the four stroke "revolution" began.

Yes the speeds of the races is higher. This is due to the "straightening" of the tracks. There are very few "difficult" sections or tight corners, everything is sweeping and banked. Sort of like NASCAR.

In a conversation with Rich Winkler (the guy that builds the AMA Supercross tracks) the indoor tracks have been modified in a huge way to accommodate the four-strokes.

Keep in mind one important factor when discussing the difference between the two-strokes and four-strokes, there is no fair comparison. Why? It's all a marketing driven.

All pro racing is designed to sell bikes. Plain and simple. Currently the bikes the manufacturers are trying to sell are four-strokes. The good news for us two-stroke fans, is that it's backfiring like a rusty old Model T. The warehouses are full of four-strokes the manufacturers can't give away.

The future will be different.... get out your crystal ball to see what it's going to look like!

WOW!!! Now the pressure is on!!

I will get to this as soon as possible, but please understand that I'm on vacation this week. I'll be staying at my mother-in-laws house in Dover Delaware.

The mfg has supplied me with a great deal of information. We are still going back and forth with e-mails gathering additional information.

John,as for changing things, that's true to an extent but some things have a time frame and if you miss it,it's gone-there's no going back.I almost joined the military at 18 as I was in the reserves anyway.Had I done so,I would have retired last year with more pension than I'm making now in salary-and I wouldn't be looking at another 20 yrs to work.

Ford, the statistics are scary... retirement = early death

Besides if you love something, wouldn't you want to continue it throughout your life? Sure there is a time limit on stuff like becoming a Pro motocross rider or possibly in your case a porn star ( 8) ) but there are other journeys in life to explore.

When you stop living and learning you're just waiting to die...

no premix= no delicious smell : ( I wonder if it will sound the same?

Yeah, but it leaves the market open for a premix smell deodorant!  :o :o

Fabulous job on the bike! Looks amazing!

What a sad video....

I've lost a lot of respect for Ryno... I thought the guy was more mature than that. Sure the other guy probably did something stupid on the track, but Ryno beat him by something near 30 seconds!

Just let it go.

What's worse are many of the comments on Vurb. Truly disturbing. Hopefully most of the comments were by 13 year olds.

Back in the day, those Maicos were the ultimate in handling... I had the opportunity to ride my buddies Adolph Weil replica, it was amazing! Better then the other bikes of the time.

Life is all about change and I've found you constantly have to restructure your life to keep up with the flow.I've got ten years on you Coop and I'm embarking on an "Excellent new adventure",it can be scary at times, but it's never boring and that helps make the journey worthwhile.

I could not agree more!!

Life would be boring, at least to me if it always stayed the same. I could not perform the same job over and over again every day, I know some people love it but for me it's worse than death. I feel life is about getting off your duff and trying new things all the time. That's the real juice in life.

For those with regrets, it's easy to have them looking in the rear view mirror. As they say hindsight is 20/20. Just appreciate what you have and if you don't like what you have or where you are... change it! The only thing holding you back is you.

Dogger,

Your bikes always have that factory bike look and feel to them, with everything looking absolutely new and original. Awesome job on this one.

What's the deal with the suspension? It looks like it's a couple of grades higher than the standard bikes have on them...

How bad is the rear spring to case overlap? Even from the photos about it looks like it will hit. Can't wait to see the way you solve it.

Looking forward to more photos.

The guys that created this kit are responsible for the article that has gotten the most traffic on the main TSM site;
http://twostrokemotocross.com/2010/04/new-2011-yz125-spy-photos/

Yes it may be high-priced, but it's not outrageous for what you get. A custom gas tank is big bucks to manufacture, plus the custom sub frame. This is all done by a small shop and has nothing to do with Yamaha motor company.

It's really funny but the biggest reason that many people didn't want to buy the new Yamaha 2 strokes was the fact that the plastics looked dated! To me that's the dumbest thing ever, but hey each to their own.

One thing is for sure, if you show up with your Yamaha two stroke with that kit, you will get a lot of attention.

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering who from this site will be at Budds Creek this weekend for the National?

I saw on one of the message boards that Jeff Gibson plans to be at Budds, and I presume that he'll be there with the 2 stroke.

Has anyone seen the pre entry list? Perhaps Ty Newcome #467 plans to be there also?

At the last minute before High Point, I tried to get in touch about filming and photographing the 2 stroke guys. I knew there wasn't much time for me to get a message here on the board, so I left a cell # where I could be reached and I also called John Nicolas to try to get in touch with Charles. I didn't hear from anyone before the race started, so I put the cameras back in the truck as the inclement weather threatened and finally closed in.

I'll be at Budds this weekend and can get footage of the riders on the track, and do the interview spots people were talking about last week.

Let me know if we can do that. I won't be leaving for the track until Friday evening.

Thanks,

Jim

Hey Jim,

Sorry I didn't get your message until Saturday morning... I thought it was too late to call by then as practice had started.

Did you get in touch with Charles?

John

The engineers who developed that machine must be pretty confident about all their stress calculations to allow such a demonstration.

No matter what calculations the engineers came up with, that operator has balls of steel!

Technical / Re: how would i get the most out of my bike?
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:56:36 AM »
I have a different take on this.

Keep your bike clean. Just like the pros do. This makes it easier to see if there are any problems with your bike that must be attended to. Also it looks good when you show up at the track. Besides, heavy caked up mud adds weight to your bike which requires more horsepower.

Next make sure that the wheels spin freely. Most bikes tend to develop bad wheel bearings, which rob horsepower. Much of the bearing damage is done by using a pressure washer, so if you use one to clean your bike, check this area regularly. One of the TSM sponsors is All Balls which sells bearing kits at reasonable prices. When they're bad, replace them.

Make sure your brakes do not drag when you spin the wheels. Two reasons for this, the dragging brakes take horsepower to spin, plus it wears out your brake pads!

CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER!!! You would be shocked to know that many people do not have a regular schedule for properly cleaning their air filter. By regular, it means after every ride or race. Your race bike needs large quantities of air to produce power. A dirty, clogged air filter robs you of precious horsepower. As an added benefit your engine lasts a lot longer.

Clean and lube your chain. O-ring chain takes more horsepower to spin, but keeps dirt out of sensitive areas. Make sure that there is no rust keeping your chain from spinning freely. You also might want to check to ensure that your sprockets line up. You can look at the chain/sprocket from the rear as you spin the wheel. Does your chain make a turn at the front sprocket or rear sprocket? Then something is wrong, even if you lined up the chain adjuster marks.

These are just some of the basics, that can be done for very low cost. They can make a huge dfference in the performance of your machine.

Have fun!

I read that too. I hope he gets some coverage.

Andrew, the only way he'll get any real coverage is if someone from here does it. Someone could go up to him at High Point take a few photos and ask a few questions. Using that info create a little article that Charles can publish.

This is the only way to really cover two-strokes at the Pro Races. Sure the mainstream media may publish a little blurb, but to get it done now, we have to all work together to make it happen.

There are a few folks on here from Western Pennsylvania, any of you willing to do that?

If so, Charles may be able to get you a media pass to get into the pits. Well if you ask him really nicely!  8) 8)

Interesting to hear how some folks made it to this site!!

I got an e-mail from Jean Turner at Cycle News last April... I didn't write back because I thought I'd done something wrong!! :o :o :o :o

As for On The Pipe Racing, Lee is a great guy! If you need used parts, be sure to check out his site, he has great deals and he describes the parts fairly. I bought a crank from him that was in excellent condition for $50.

Fun hearing these stories.
