I'm only 5'10,  ;D as for the suspension $500 is a hell of a deal. However, if I don't end up doing a hybrid, I think buying a set of kx125/250/500 kxf250/450 forks would be a better deal to work with as it would update the bike completely . The other idea is to ride it a bit more and get a 250 and keep the kdx for a trail bike.

I was very dissapointed with myself for buying the KX250

That's a common sentiment. :P ;)
I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

key word  "WAS" :D
very much satisfied with my decision now.
If a pair of 2" brass balls isn't working, I doubt that the 3" model will make much difference.

Changed tranny fluid, will see if it fixed the problem this weekend.

Went riding again today put in about 10.7 miles, still having some clutch issues. However, it is not as bad as before, so I believe the fluid change helped.

As for suspension, the forks feel great, and the rear shock sucks.

On my '03 I feel the opposite. My forks are way too soft but the shock feels pretty good. I have the forks off for new seals and I will go with some heavier oil. i can't afford new springs right now.

Yep. This was out at china hat where there are a bunch of small riding areas/trails, but this is small compared to east fort rock which is up the road 20 or so miles.

Never been, had plans to go a few times but never made it out China Hat or East Fork Rock.  I heard if you go past end of May it's too dusty

Checked compression, and its 140psi. Anyone know what stock compression is?

My service manual says 95-151psi under the section for top ends.

You can download the owners manual from Kawasaki's site. I see stuff like jet sizes in there, but didn't see compression numbers.

Anything under 120psi and the KDX will start to run poorly.I'd guess you should see about 150psi with a fresh engine.I've tested CR250 Honda's at over 200psi and had Yamaha's still run at 70psi.I think with an aftermarket pipe and silencer and a slight bump in compression that Kawi would be just about perfect for those long desert rides. :D
