General Two Stroke Talk / Re: New Two stroke piston design.
« on: October 22, 2018, 05:08:27 PM »
If you thought there was any performance advantage you could always make an insert for the pin in a conventional piston to take that opening away.

I machine quite a few pistons for a different application and use teflon inserts instead of circlips. It would be easy to fit them so they were perfectly flush to the piston.

Maybe I should start manufacturing them. Which one of you guys wants to be my spokesman and do testimonials?  ;D

I have a couple builds going this winter, I'd try it!

I think I have the answer to your bad starts.

The one and only time I raced this year was back in September, while I am sitting on the line I'm thinking: "I really don't want to get a good start, that way I can just hang back and enjoy the ride."

#2 out of the first turn in all 4 of my motos!

So I guess the trick is to not want to get a good start!

I may need a 125...

This is very interesting.

We need our resident engine dynamics guru to weigh in on this.

Flettner?

Ah yes. I know that affliction personally and in full measure. Not only am I a sufferer but it, as you noted, it is highly contagious. My wife is now afflicted as well.

At last count we had 32 motorcycles in various states of completeness, mostly 80's to mid 90's.

We got a storage unit to put a car into. By the time the car was ready the storage unit was full of motorcycles.

I try to stay off of craigslist, I really do!

Ok, found you a work around for the short term.

Open the attachments and other options, attach your image(s). (Use "more attachments" to add more than one.)
Post to upload the images.
Modify your post.
Right click on the thumbnail, choose "Copy Link" or whichever version of that menu item your preferred browser has.
Click on the Add image icon (Mona Lisa) in the menu above.
Paste the copied link in between the image tags.
Save your post.

That will allow you to use the TSM server to host your images.

I'll see what I can do for setting up a way for you to send them to the TSM web server and link from there in a more direct fashion. It will take me a few days most likely for me to code the tool, I'll post back here when its ready.

Racer-X has definitely been doing yeoman's duty, and we appreciate it!

We are working on getting more content up on the site and that will hopefully help drive more traffic to the forum.

I sent him to the Technical board. You can find the pictures and the rest of the discussion over there.

I'd add a Lectron carb to the above list.

Ah, okay I understand now.

The head stay is in the right spot it is the spigot for the water inlet. In that case never mind taking it off, just refer to my previous statement about cooling inlet location.

If it were me I'd buy a good used head of off ebay and make it right, but I understand about limited budgets as well.

I wouldn't expect you to have an issue unless you ride at a pro level, and even then probably not.

It would help if you posted up some pictures because I am pretty sure you can rotate that head 180° and it will fit so I am curious why it won't

As for your specific question about can you run it like that: kind of.

From a cooling perspective the hottest part of the engine is in the area of the exhaust port so it is desirable to have the cooler water from the radiator to arrive there first, hence the inlet normally being in that area. So cooling will be compromised somewhat but a lot depends on where and how you ride as to that being important.

The second consideration is the head stay will now not be able to be attached to the frame. It may be surprising to some but the engine is actually a stressed member of the system and not having the head stay connected will affect how much the frame flexes (yes they do flex when you are riding) and can effect the handling. Again much of this depends on how and where you ride.

If you take the head off and post some pictures I will try to figure out why it is the wrong way around.
