Vintage Two Strokes / Maico gearbox oil
« on: February 24, 2011, 01:31:29 AM »
Well this year it's eventually happening, getting a couple of the Maicos well sorted for a bit of fun during the summer.

Know there's at least a couple of regular Maico users on here so I'll put my trust in them rather than a lot of dodgy forums/websites.

So todays query is gearbox oil. I don't really need specifics about brands more what way to go e.g. good quality (expensive) modern oil or cheaper oil and change it more often, multigrade 10-40 or 20-50 or a heavier gear oil such as 80 or 90w, synthetic or mineral.

Any experiences and/or recommendations welcome.

General Two Stroke Talk / British Supercross.
« on: January 31, 2010, 02:47:40 AM »
Just to let you all know that the final round of the British Supercross series was held last night at the O2 arena in London and at the end of the four round series Ulsterman Gordon Crockard is the winner of the Open Class title for British riders and finished second overall in the Open Class for international riders on the 250 2-stroke hybrid Kawasaki. In this class in the first round he finished second overall to Mike Brown and last night in this class he finished second overall to American Heath Voss but relatively low scores in both rounds two and three (due to being "taken out" in both cases!) prevented him from taking the international title as well.

Strangely enough, since Gordons success in the first round press coverage of these events has been unusually low key, possibly co-incidence but somehow I doubt it. Just wanted to let you all know that the competitiveness shown by the 2010 KXF framed but 2-stroke engined bike that was shown at the first round was NOT a fluke and also bear in mind that he was competing in the open class against some of the best 450's out there and on a totally private effort.

Shame on the Japanese factories yet again for not producing such a bike themselves and forcing us all to accept these inherently inferior 4-stroke abominations whether we want them or not

General Two Stroke Talk / The "PR" battle
« on: December 15, 2009, 01:32:13 AM »
I've exchanged a few e-mails with "the boss" of the site but this is my first post and hopefully not my last, however my view of things will be from the other side of the pond so maybe not always relevant,...............but you're going to get it anyway!

Seen an interesting thread on our local motocross forum recently which I though perfectly summed up the PR battle that 2-strokes are up against. A rider with no experience whatsoever of a "stroker" but a head full of paddock waffle and prejudices but then on the plus side a very positive report from someone with the nerve to set that aside and actually try one. Finally then topped off with the difficulties in getting one if you do decide that it's the way to go.

A strange contrast of myth v reality!
