Open Forum / How did you get into Dirtbikes?
« on: May 16, 2012, 12:48:08 PM »
I was 4 years old when my Dad took me to my first motorsports event that just happened to be indoor stadium mx .  it was 1986 and they were raceing bikes, quads AND 3 wheelers . after that day I was hooked and wanted a dirtbike really bad but I had to wait 4 or 5 more years to get one . Been riding ever since and have always made sure to go riding at least a few times a month but lately its been a few times a week . :D .  Started my own business just so I could work to live instead of the other way around .

Vintage Two Strokes / OEM cr125 Decals
« on: May 15, 2012, 03:57:07 PM »
Hey guys just wanted some input from the vintage resto guys here on this fine forum . I want to replace the shroud decals with the original s and also the swinger decals . The oem looking decals that were on it are made by nstyle so I may try contacting them to see if they still offer them .

Do any of you guys know of any companies that make oem graphics  for older bikes ?

      thanks ahead of time .

Open Forum / 2 stroke plate on Xtreme
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:21:17 PM »
I've had "UL-LOOZ" on my plate since about 96 or so . its on my 04 Ram now but was made for my 91 Camaro RS That was the definition of sleeper . it's funny how many people talk shit about the 80's-early90's Camaro's . I used to enjoy letting mustang 5.0 owners run there mouth about my gutless chevy 5.0 and then blow there doors off  leaving them full of questions that I wouldnt answer . :D

Well i'm noticing more and more that every week at the track the smokers are coming back .  Were more 125 smokers on the track in the 125/250f class than 250f's . The quad class had more than one trx250r and they were kickin a$$ out there . I'm not a big quad fan but at one point a kid on a 240 blaster was smoking every 450 on the track and they werent catching him at all , was great .  My friend who's dad owns a Honda dealership here locally is converting to 2 stroke aswell .  He told me last night that his dad never gave him a choice in the matter and put him on a 250f because they are the "waive of the future " the kid was schooling people on a barrowed 03 yz125 .  we were sitting on the bleachers between practices and he had a few of his dads pals walk up and start talking to us and the first question asked was were's your 250 at ? His reply "at the house" they ask why? is it broke down ?he said "nope its just a turd and I dont want to ride it anymore". Priceless !!! His dad thinks 2 strokes are done so will not assist in anyway to get him a 125 so the guy that let him barrow the yz125 pretty much gave the bike to him to race this season said he would sell it to him for $500.

I talked to countless other riders and Dads lastnight on why they choose 2 stroke and 9 out of 10 times it was 'they are more fun and they can afford to maintain them without mortgageing the house " .

Another funny thing I noticed last night was that the Crf150 mx bike that was supposed to take over the 85 class was the 2 slowest bikes on the track 2 out of about 25 bikes  :D :D

General Two Stroke Talk / The ugliest CR ever ?
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:28:08 PM »
although it is ugly, and it is expensive, that is Ronnie Faist's CR.  He was one of the originators, as in Crust Demons of Dirt #1, been there since day one.

Never heard of Ronnie Faist until a few years ago and his name is not on the credits or anywhere else for  thatmatter on  crusty 1 ,2 or 3 . The originals are Seth Enslow , Larry Linkogle , Mike Metzger , Brian Manley , Rusty Setzer . If Ronnie Faist was there from the beggining he was in the background not being mentioned what so ever throughout the 1st few crusty's.

The opinions in this thread clearly express the difference between "collectors" and "riders".  Period.

I can say with certainty that there is a motocross enthusiast out there, who makes 250K per year, and watched Crusty back in the 90s when he was in college, who WILL pay the asking price for that, and put it on top of the wet bar in his house.  This is not a bike you buy and race Vet C with at Lost in the Woods Motocross Park in Arkansas.

I would get it in a heartbeat, hang a disco ball above it, and everyone from Crusty 1-4 would sign it EXCEPT Deegan.

I still watch crusty 1-3 atleast once a week  :D and they didnt have hacked up bikes like this , they were riding stock looking 93-96 mxer's  with a black fender here and there. No cut seats or airboxes or hideous schemes on the bikes but I see what your getting at because they did go that way in later years of fmx which is retarded in my opinion to begin with . I think old crusty vid's were of freeriding and the newer ones are freestyle metal ramp jumping gayness .  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

Technical / Is A K&N Air Filter Worth Buying?
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:04:27 PM »
Interesting that this question came up . A few years ago a friend of mines brother started bashing every air filter that wasnt k&n , saying they were the best since he put one in his 96 z28 .  Well we decided to do a little test to see if the K&n was better .     Test Bike: ESR trx250r quad (not mine), 1st we made sure that the inside of the carb boot was clean and it was spotless , installed a new uni filter then went riding in a sand pit a few miles away for a couple of hrs .  removed the uni and checked carb boot , was still spotless not one grain of sand on the inside . 2nd we installed a brand new k&n with a an outer ware bag over it , went and rode in the same place for the same amount of time brought it back home and pulled the k&n off and holy crap the inside of the carb boot was coated with a thin layer of sand and my buddy was regretting using his $4000 quad to do the test on  ???. It was pretty clear what filter actually filtered the air better and it was NOT k&n .  They are junk , and after that test it proved it . Would never waste my money on one of those pos's.
Opinions are like a-holes but I've seen first hand with my own 2 eyes the difference in an off road application and it was scary to say the least .

What makes a 2 stroke engine have 20k in modification? 10k suspension??? its not even an A kit.

No kidding . Is it even possible to invest 20k into a motor ? aside from having solid gold and silver internals .  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

I dont think KTM alone is the way of the future but euro bikes all together . Seems like the bergs, gasgas,TM and Husky's are pretty nice bikes too .
