01 Yz125 or 02 yz125?
« on: August 13, 2012, 09:12:50 PM »
So I have an 01 yz125 green sticker bike, it's ok and all but I absolutely hate the plastics on it, I'm extremely uncomfortable, and I am looking at a nice 02 yz125 on craigslist for $1400. I really want to get it because from 02 up they didn't do much plastic changes and the 02 is green sticker and looks like the newer yz's (besides the steel frame). I have my bike up for $1400 as well but it has some issues, and I can't lower the price due to not having any spare money to make up for lowering it. Just wondering if I should get it or possibly fix up my bike.

If I was you I'd just keep the 01 until I could afford something 5 or more years newer as the changes from one year to the next are usually barely noticeable especcially when they've already endured 10 years of racing.

id fix up the one you have now. the 02 ultimately only looks different. the motors and susp are essentially the same with only minor differences. I saw awhile back a buy put on the '10 yzf fenders and the 02 tank and shrouds with the stock rear plactic and honestly it was badass. much cleaner than the new ufo kit. if you want to make it better you can find deals on ebay for 05 and newer suspension sometimes with clamps starting at $300. at the very least id get the plastic and drop your susp off for a revalve and have the motor gone thru and while your at it paint the frame and replace worn parts...thats if you pick between 01 and 02.

honestly if your wanting an upgrade in bikes save your pennies for an 05 or newer YZ or an 04~Rm or even a 03 kx 125's

Yeah i thinking of keeping it, getting aftermarket suspension and taking it in to get all the problems fixed, then gonna work on finding the right triple clamps and handle bars, once all thats good, gonna replace the plastics, and get some muscle milk graphics.

i think 02 yz 125 came with a 5 speed gearbox besides 6 speed.

you'd better keep up that 01.. i've got a 5 speed 125 and i feel that i need something between gears..

check yz 125 tsm's project, you'll see that with a few mods the bike will look stunning.
