The funny thing is, the FIM rules are the same as AMA rules, so I wonder why they don't just import them here as well?

Good point Burn! I'd also like to know why..  :(

As for the RM125, it's the most accesable adult size dirtbike.
They have been traditionally cheap.
Over here they cost like 4895Euro, and the RM250 sells for around 5695Euro.

yamaha                                                   honda
husaberg                                                  bmw
husqvarna                                                beta
gas gas
ktm
tm
maico int.
---------                                                 ----------
makes  8                                                  makes 4

thats makes together 8:4 or 2:1  :o
I did`t count with some exotic brands and maybe i forgot some ( i did some beer)
When ossa comes this year with a twostroke dirtbike it becomes even 9:4

I think it's the same reason we see Yamaha with such high prices for YZ's.  If they lower the prices to comparable to what they have. I'd guess that the 4 strokes would sell even worse. Remember, they have 08's and 09's sitting in factory warehouses still. That doesn't bode well for them.

Beta sells 2T trials bikes and BMW owns Husqvarna (which makes 2T's). :D

The pricing of the RMs in the UK really highlights the price of the YZ 2ts.

Yamaha sells the YZs at a very steep price, for a bike(s) that is essentially the same thing since their introduction. As MXA mentioned in their test, they think it should be a lower price - at least closer to the original price. I think the 250 2t is the same or a higher price than the 250 4t. You could say it's economies of scale, but I'd throw right back at those that said that, the amortissement of cost with such a long term production run.....

Perhaps Yamaha are milking the 2t for all it's worth to help out with the burden of holding so much unsold 4t stock?

Maybe the Brit distributors are being used as a clearing house for the last of the Suzuki 2ts?

Are the Suzukis being sold in other markets still?

I still hope, perhaps in vain, that Yamaha will do one of their classic ground breaking moves, like the Reed Induction, Mono shocks, the YZfs, by suddenly bringing out a DFI 2t. But I'm not holding my breathe on that. They've got DFI 2t outboards, so at least they haven't given up completely.

The RM's are not just for sale in the UK. You can still buy them in mostly every european country.
Some selected Kawasaki dealers in Belgium and Holland can still delivery you a KX125 or KX250.
But the price increase on Yamaha YZ's is just ridiculous, for just some new stickers every year...

How 'bout a chime in from our Canadian members like Ford - can you still get KX's and RM's up by the arctic circle, and if so what are the prices at local dealers?  I'm only about a 4 hour drive from the border here in southern Maine, might be worth a look.....
