Cool bike, but why not get a slightly older bike for half the price? Same bike...

Not quite, this one has been detuned to make it less competitive against the 450.

I know, I just didnt say it because I didnt want him to feel TOO bad for wasting his money knowing he could have paid less for a faster bike.

I don't get where you guys get this conspiracy theory that all late model 2Ts are "detuned" to make 4Ts look better.  Got any credible links?

4Ts have simply caught up while 2Ts tread water.  But I think the 2012 KTM 250SX may be a watershed.  If they start winning races and demand stays high, the other mfgs might take notice and put a few $ in the 2T dev budget.

The "detuning" claim I've heard about the 07-08 RM was Suzuki retuning the power curve from mid to upper to calm hit.  That's not detuning.  The 2 RMs I have right now demonstrate that perfectly.  The 97 hits like a beast, which is fun, but has very little high-end.  The 08 hooks up better out of corners and walks away on straights with totally superior over-rev.

You made a fine choice sevenoh9.  Nothing like a new bike.

I agree mountaingoat.
Manufactors have been trying to "Broaden" the power curve for years.
Different to de-tuning.
I bet the new KTM has 6-7Hp? more then your '97 but over a broader rev range.
If you don't fall off you are not going hard enough

Decreasing compression is limiting horse power in my books. My 03 makes more horse power and torque than his 2011 yz250, it only weighs 2lbs more because of the steel frame, and the only real thing I have to do on my bike to bring up to date is update it to 06 and up suspension. That's right, the only thing missing between my 03 and a 2010 is an aluminum frame, and larger suspension.  What does that say? The 2011 yz250 is exactly the same despite head mods and port work. So you're paying how much for them to simply lower the compression??? $7000???  ;) I paid a grand for mine... ;D

MXA Made a video showcasing the 2011 Yz125 and Yz250 describing how they have detuned the 2010 and 2011 Yz250 using the excuse of trying to meet regulations.

And you immediately spend a bunch on repairs and fixing what the previous owner neglected. Some people prefer new so they don't have to fix anything and paying more is worth that to them, don't knock a person because of their personal choice in bikes.  :)

I'm still only $1500 in (Bikes worth $2000 kbb, but every where else its priced about $2200-$3000), and the only thing I have left to do is suspension and plastic. What I pointed out was still valid, and the only "repairs" so far have been cosmetic, rear tire(Original rear), sprockets/chain, and a carb rebuild kit(ethanol ate every thing up) which everyone will end up doing anyway I would love a new YZ250, but why is it more than a KTM250sx, and why did they detune an MX bike?

and if EVERYONE bought used ones, there is no market for new ones and the manufacturers stop making them and then people have a case of the sads as there are no used bikes to trickle down :)

Got a link to that?  I can't find it.

Anyway, the original poster hasn't been back, post count of 1.  Congrats.
