Custom air-box for a 2007 honda cr125
« on: October 27, 2012, 02:56:15 AM »
I've seen the loud-mouth and the twin-air power flow kit's as well as bonz-mx's solution for the cr's. What i would like to have is a KTM style air-box. Anyone out there capable of this cutting edge feat?  If not which of the first 3 is my best choice? Don't forget the price if it's possible.   KIM

Unscrew the sidepanel plug, if your looking for more air. If that,s not enough, drill holes on top of the sidepanels  under the seat. I did that to my 04 cr125 mod bike, it needed more air. The carb is bored to 40mm, 2mm ovr bore also.

Super Trucker Thank's for you answer. I did'nt say i have ufo side number plate's. I'm looking for a easier airbox to clean and to make sure it's sealed correctly. The twin-air pro flow kit is suppost to be smaller allowing more room for your hands. Very expensive kit and if you add the sealing ring's it's like 300 dollar's. Loudmouth kind of pricey.Bonzmx or Mxbonz seem's like a good price. Air filter seal's better but no extra room for hand's. I had a moto magazine a few year's back where they did away with the linkage on a cr or crf and made a KTM style airbox for the bike. They said it added 1 to 2 horse power if i remember right. I mostly wanted to try a KTM style airbox for the simplicity of cleaning a filter. Helped my friend clean his air filter on his sx125.SO SO EASY. I don't really believe it added 2 horse's but a way easier air filter to to clean...   Sorry about the bonxmx or mxbonz can't remember which one is correct.     KIM

I agree the 06 airbox is too small, I have more trouble getting the airfilter sealed  tight all the way around. When I tighten it down, the airfilter gets sucked inside the cage. My 04  is easier to change.  I think there,s a big diff. in chassis, the 04 is super solid, feels heavier, little wider, easier  to ride  at a fast pace. The 06  feels much lighter, narrower, not as solid feeling  at a fast pace, but really good thow.  The 04,s handling is beyond perfect. ;D

SuperTrucker  I thought 2004 thru 2007 honda cr125's all had same frame, airbox etc only difference i thought was a electronically controled power valve. Makes me want to ride a 2004 honda cr125 see which i like better? My cr125 is a 2007.4 Question for you? How much power does a power valve add to a bike or is it just spread of power? Same 2 question about the throttle positioning sensor (TPS). Hope this brain drain isn't cutting in to you'r ridin.       KIM

The 04 has a beefier and heavier swingarm, diff linkage, shock is aprox 1.5 inches shorter than the 06. The 04 forks are heavier, the axle is set forward. The 06  doesn,t have that chunk of alum. then the axle.  I think the frames are about the same otherwise, subframe 0n the 04 might be 1-3 mm wider. With both engines being stock, the 04 is not even close to a 06. It is honda where talking about, they,ll  make a part 30 grams lighter for a new bike, like the frame they might add 1 web on the inside of the frame. A power valve was a gimmick to sell bikes, 1990 the cr125 and 250 had p. valves, the cr,s before that dominated motocross  without a pv. I set the cables on my 04, so the pv opens quicker. I want all my power right now, that waiting for the pv to operate is bs. I had a few rm,s there pv is adjustable, I always set it light  then it cracks open quicker. A powervalve adds low to mid power. I don,t think the cr85 or 500 has a powervalve. I wish they where not on 125,s  a topend takes longer, more parts to wear out

Read about the power valve mod. You mentioned adjusting your cables and pv curious as to what and how you did it? Have a 2003 CR125 so intrested in ways to get more power myself.
