Monster Mountain in Alabama is awesome if anyone gets a chance to go there!

Here's a lap on my buddy riding his YZ144.

Yes Eric Gorr did the topend.  I ground the cases myself (actually a friend with a machine shop did while I stood there, lol).

We took a trip south a week ago to Monster Mountain in Alabama.  The bike RIPS!  I'm honestly not very good on a 125 anymore, going to need some practice.  And I'm not exactly the target weight either....but it was a blast.

Two strokes are back!  The place was packed with them on the 4 days we were there.  In our group alone we brought 3 RM125's and 3 YZ125's!

They don't make them anymore for the RM125.  I found this set as discontinued NOS on Ebay.

RM144 is done.

Still same basic look...little bit snazzed up.  I like the stock blue/yellow look and as mentioned in an above post I may go full-retro on this bike in the future!

Anyway, here it is.  Heading down south to ride it for the first time this weekend at Monster Mountain.  12 hour drive to ride the tiddler!  Been on a crash diet to fit back in my gear, haha!

Sounds great!

Started with a very nice 2006 RM125, put on an all blue 2007 seat and found NOS Bill's Pipe and Silencer...

Recently completely tore down, motor sent out for 144cc topend and porting.

Have new triple clamps, a bunch of carbon fiber, gold rims, you get the idea.  I'll post pics when it's done in a couple weeks....

I have a bunch of old 80's RMs too and I ALMOST painted the frame and motor on this bike Suzuki blue to make a modern retro look....but decided to hold off for now.  It's going to get the "trick" but stock look....

Also found that RM250s had titanium footpegs that switch right onto the RM125.  Found a set on Ebay for $18....

Did you ever ride that bike. Its in perfect condition.

Yeah I rode it quite a bit.  I'm a Suzuki guy at heart so I sold it to my friend who is a die-hard YZ guy.  He also used to try and qualify for 125 Nationals back in the 90's.....he RIPS on this bike.

Vintage Two Strokes / Re: My Old RM's

Would you have the shoes/drums matched if it was to be done all over again?

Having awesome brakes and suspension is probably the most important part of racing these old bikes.  My re-lined brakes stop as well as many disc brake bikes!

Also, kind of funny story on why I have the '78 RM......

I started into MX in the 80's, so I never had a dual shock bike.  I had never even ridden one.
At one point I decided I wanted to have an RM from each decade....70's, 80's, 90's, etc.
Obviously I have the 80's pretty well covered....and I also have a current bike and a '92 RM125 that needs put back together.

So...I needed a 70's bike.  Ran across that 1978 owned by a friend, and it seemed like the perfect fit!  First time I rode it was when I went to the AHRMA National at Gatorback Feb 2010.  I raced it in the Cross Country and got 2nd on it!  Then in MX I broke the right footpeg.

Bike is very cool and definitely very different to ride.
