1981 IT465 flooding out please help
« on: July 21, 2014, 12:52:01 AM »
Just picked up this sweet old 1981 IT465 . She started right up and ran alright when I test drove her. This was my first time riding this big of a bike. When I was a kid I had a old 78 yz100.

When I got home and took it around the property started right up again. Seemed to run fine but maybe a hesitant on the power in the lower end. I went down a long downhill section when I just coasted down in 3rd gear , the bike running. All of a sudden she just lost power.

Tried to restart , after a while had to push her 1/4 mile uphill untill I got close enough to get my son and the quad for a tow. Cleaned the spark plug real good, and she started right up. She was idling just fine as i waiting for my son to open the gate 2-3 minutes, then died again.

Pulled plug again it was wet so cleaned it. Now she will just try to run for a sec then die. I read online somewhere that no power on lower end and flooding on downhill is the reeds?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't wanna start throwing money yet if its something simple.

Did I flood it out / should i have tried to keep her running down the hill?

I would make sure the choke is off and then put a fresh plug in. Sure sounds like a fouled plug to me, you can't always clean them.
