It's just amazing what people are doing in their home workshops.Where they find the time to do these things I'll never know.

There's a British guy who lives on the side of a mountain in the country near me (basically "the middle of no where") and in his home workshop he builds dual sport sidecars that he sells all over the world!

Building crazy engined bikes is kind of like motorcycling - a hobby that lets you relax.A friend of mine's father had to retire in his early 60s due to health problems. He told me his biggest mistake was that he let go of all his hobbies to run his business and now that he couldn't do that he didn't know what to do with himself.

Not useless at all.Just an hour ago I stopped at the local TH (coffee shop) on the way home from the little ones all weekend dance competition.Sitting in the lot ,taking a well deserved break from their glorified meter maid highway activities were three cruisers-no doubt hard at work doing donut investigation.Very usefull bunch imo

In some cases,most definitely.In others you have to shake your head and wonder wtf they were thinking.
Britten was still by far the worlds best home mechanic imo-hands down.I believe he was a transplanted Canadian-makes sense anyway otherwise how else could he have accomplished what he did.

Turns out Joe Bolger (one of the first long travel guys - BLT Ossa) was Canadian as well.I think there's a bit of Red Green in everyone in the Great White North.

....so it is possible to build a 2-stroke crankshaft that will run 5 cylinders....and if you can do it with 5, you can do it with 8....this lets me know that a couple of engineering ideas that I have aren't entirely stupid ones.
