As the old saying goes,"If you want to make a million dollars racing, start with two million."
Good on you Charles for all your efforts. 8) Good to hear from you also John-what have you been up to?

Lol,my 160 km/h 6spd 550 Husaberg did.100 mph on a dirt bike is nothing to sneeze at-I don't care how many strokes it has. ;D

Fwiw, the Berg at an indicated 160 kph was far less scary than my quad at 70kph. Go figure. :)

Open Forum / Checked out the new YZ450F's.
« on: July 12, 2013, 12:30:29 PM »
Picked up a rear tire for buddies CRF last night and my dealer has 3 in stock.I have to admit,a very impressive machine up close-very open and uncluttered for a 4t.Even the gas cover thingy fits and locks in well-not as hokey as it appears. It seems tall standing beside it.I'm a 32 inseam and the seat top was easily at my waist.
Anyhoo,I asked him where the new YZ250's were and he said" there are none-they're already perfected, what would you change?" All I could think of was a steel backbone frame and maybe plastic. :)
So there you go,the definitive answer on why there are no new 2t's.I should have known,it seems so obvious now.  8) ;)

General Two Stroke Talk / Emig-WTF??
« on: July 05, 2013, 10:20:31 PM »
Now I've been willing to give him a pass when evvvvvvvvveryone else was giving him the gears for his  anti-2t sentiment. My thinking is he's a Kawi employee and just pushes their new bikes all the time but I guess after today,I finally have to jump on the bandwagon.
RV is in the position he's in because he came up racing only fourstrokes and therefore rides better and differently from everyone else.-words to that effect anyway.
After that comment I don't think RC knew what to say.
In other words, riding a 2t when you're young hampers your ability to ride a 4t when you get older.
I'm not overly sensitive about this stuff I can see the benefit in 4t's in some situations but I think Emig's finally lost it. ???

General Two Stroke Talk / 2006 to a 2002 YZ250. Need some help

Hey,you found it-good stuff 8)
You can brush your filter off a bit before removing it or put a filter skin over it-or one of the old woman's nylons.
You could trying greasing the seal of the filter to improve sealing but I don't-though some do.
Is your drain open at the bottom? My 02 has a baffle designed such that nothing could really get up there.
If sand is getting in it will settle to the bottom-naturally- then "bounce" up and stick on the bottom of the filter when going over bumps/jumps.
Regardless, with the speed of a dirt bike, they don't much care where they get their air from.If you wanted to block off the bottom and vent it elsewhere it wouldn't matter.
My KTM's used to  put a lot of dirt to the airbox. When riding in a lot of dusty conditions I'd take a layer of old filter or other  light foam and stick it dry over the airbox vents. It helped a lot with minimal air restriction.

General Two Stroke Talk / 2006 to a 2002 YZ250. Need some help

In order to run wide open it needs air-lots of it.It's hard to imagine not a carb issue or air leak.Just out of curiosity, why did you swap the 02 engine and electrics, but go with the 06 carb?

There may be something with how the 06 CDI works with the 02 ignition-assuming that's your setup but failing that.I'd look inside your carb to make sure the slide is all the way down-not just that the twist grip is "closed".It sounds like the cable ferrule is hung up on the top of the carb under the rubber boot.
On the other hand,if you couldn't stop it with the kill switch it sounds like a no load runaway-in other words,an air leak.If this is the case, you can't kill it with the switch but putting it in gear and releasing the clutch(putting it under load) will stop it instantly.
