Is the voting done for the frame?  Red frame for sure?

'nother red vote here. ..  I just like the idea of it standing out and getting some much deserved attention.

Technical / Re: Bottom end rebuild... again...

Assuming it's a stock cylinder with a nikasil (or equivalent) plating, I would recommend to just have it replated.  (Millenium Technologies is a good source for this work). ..  the plating will cost a bit over $200. . .  but IMO is well worth it.

I've spent YEARS dealing with trx steel sleeved cylinders and am so much happier with the newer tech plated cylinders that transfer heat better and don't require oversized pistons, etc.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Petition Update

Great!  I really hope something becomes of this as there's no reason 150/300 cc two strokes can't be competitive in the current pro classes.

I heard his "apology" on the radio this morning.. ..  it was along the lines of "it was a roast" and "I look up to and admire all of these people".  Made me want to puke that he had to "apologise" for being funny.   :o

Technical / Re: RZ 350 riddle

Seeing how those cylinders would have head gaskets rather than O-rings, it seems possible there could have been a coolant leak. ..   I've had that before on my TRX and it made the bottom end feel boggy. . .   once it got screaming up top it burned right through though. .

That's my "shot-in-the-dark" guess since I'm figuring that the obvious (simple jetting issues) weren't the problem (otherwise this wouldn't be much of a riddle)

If my memory serves me correctly, the carbs and motor from that RZ350 is essentially (or very close/similar to) the powerplant Yamaha used in their Banshee quad (from '87-2006).  I know the Banshee is a liquid cooled motor. ..   is the RZ liquid or air cooled?  Did it have oil injection or run on premix?

I don't know when the next one is. ..  Hopefully it's a while before I get stumped like that again.  :)

Don't give it away yet,out in Western Canada, the gears turn pretty slowly :D
New top end eh?Piston was in backwards.

DING DING DING!!  You got it!!   :P :P

I had done everything else I could think of and just figured freshening the top end again to make sure couldn't hurt. ..   found the piston in backwards.

It appears the ring end still lined up away from any ports that way. ..   but the big gap in the intake side wreaked havoc on the plating over the exhaust bridge.

I have the cylinder out for replating now and can't wait to let 'er rip when it gets back.

Did everyone have fun with the riddle/guessing game??

Nope. ..   I did both of these and NO CHANGE.

I should add that it would ONLY start with the choke on and no throttle. ..    even after it warmed up a bit, when it died, I needed to do the same thing to get it to fire.

I jet my bikes to idle as I trail ride. ..  no MX.

Don't get too hung up on the starting thing.

A couple more things I can add to help with the riddle:

1.  I checked the reeds, no chips, but they weren't real tight, so I replaced them with new Boyesson Pro Series reeds.  This made ZERO change to how the bike runs.

2.  This is a very serious bog. ..  after running it at higher RPMs, if I let the speed down it bogs down and dies almost every time. ..  no method of blipping the throttle would keep it running.

3.  The guy I bought it from stated that it had a very recent top end rebuild from the local shop in the area.

Any more guesses, or do you guys want to hear "the rest of the story" yet?

The track you're referring to must be Ki Tracks.  Isn't there a go-cart track on that same property?

I've seen the hillshooting place you're talking about.  I used to work for Woods Equipment in Oregon and drove past there everyday.
