Technical / 07 KX250 lean condition in Gouts and whoops ???????
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:57:42 AM »

2007 KX250, jetting is perfect, float level is perfect, stock carb is clean as it gets, ultrasonic and brushed. cleaner than from the factory.
All vent hoses are new no pinches, new fuel line, with inline filter, flowing fine, installed to hopefully eliminte the following issue, with no results.
V-force3 reed block, fmf gnarly, T2. no compression leaks.
Here's the situation, and I'm at my witts end trying to narrow it down.
Fast shallow whoop section, in the pipe 4th gear, second bump, goes lean, like I'm running out of gas, I chop the throttle, the slide closes, pull in the clutch, still screamin it's head off, feather the clutch and it drops back down to normal Idle. it only does this in this same condition, smooth straights no issue, only in the whoops, or in a heavy G-out and it is inconsitant, as in it doesn't do it every time, but those are the conditions where it occurs.
I have checked the float height, I have replaced the floats, and the fuel needle, cleaned the seat, all of the circuits in the carb are clean and smooth.
The only possible conclusion I can conjur is a cracked reed on the bottom of my reed block...I haven't pulled it yet to look.
Any experience with this issue on a 05-07 KX250 would be helpful. thanx in advance, I'll let you know about the reeds when my replacements arrive

Technical / 2006 Suzuki RM 125
« on: April 24, 2011, 07:16:27 AM »
OK my buddy has a 06' RM125. He just had the cylinder replated, they matched up a wiseco piston for it, 2 hours on it and it siezes up, once it cooled down it released the piston. This guy has rebuilt 100's of two stroke motors. After tear down the piston crown had severe pitting and scoring on four points of the piston at equal points like an X. The ring was stuck like chuck. so he replaced the piston with the same piston, started right up, he did 4 15 minute heat cycles with no problem. his kid  rides it easy for 15 minutes, brings it back lets it cool, X 3. 4th time it locks up again. after tear down, which I assisted in, the piston was scored on the front, and the ring as stuck again, there was also shrapnel of an undermined source, embedded in the crown and cylinder head. after further inspection we found the big end bearing was toast, and are assuming the shrapnel came from it. So we are going to rebuild it again from the bottom up and I'm wondering what piston you guys recommend, we would like to find a twin ring piston, but it looks as if that is not an option for this model. Any suggestions would be appreciated as we are both YAmaha and Kawi guys.

Not mine but saw em and thought they looked pretty cool. Reminds me of the 80's.
I don't know anything about the manufacturer, quality, nor do I endorse the manufacturer or seller.

General Two Stroke Talk / New Fork Springs
« on: March 19, 2011, 05:45:03 AM »
I decided during the winter rebuild of my 2007 KX250, to pass on installing heavier rate fork springs during my rebuild/revalve. This was at the advice of my suspension guy,and would allow me to tell the difference in the valving changes he made. He also said something about it being between Thanksgiving and X mas, and that I should wait till the holidays are over and re weigh myself so we get the right spring rate, whatever that meant.. ::)
Well it's been a couple of months now and I can really tell the difference the valving has made front and rear. The whole bike has much smoother action, and it settles into turns now, the "stomp and turn" stigma is gone. The fork no longer deflects on roots, and the chatter I used to get in heavily choppy stuff is gone. The shock is absolutely awesome now, the stock spring rate is right for my weight, and the changes he made to it, I am sure are a lot of what makes the fork feel so good. They are pretty much perfect, until I get into the open and up to speed with a full 3 gallon tank full of gas, then I can tell that the stock .44kg springs are too anemic for me and my fully armored, kickstand, oversized tank, steering dampner having pig of a KX250.
So I was reading last months issue of MXA and there was an ad for a company called Diverse Suspension Products, and their springs are $89.00 a pair or single rear shock, SHIPPED!
Well I am all about saving a buck or thirty. So I went to the website Sunday and ordered myself a set of .48kg fork springs through my PayPAl account. They arrived last night, so I haven't installed them yet, they look nice, and came with a set of Diverse fork wrap stickers, I'm still deciding on whether or not to put them ( the stickers) on due to the fact that I already have a set of carbon fiber look KAYABA stickers on there, and they are a pain in the ass to take off. I'm also trying to schedule a time of not riding, probably be in July, to have my suspension Hard Anodized, and being a cheap bastard, shouldn't waste a good set of stickers that I'll be able to use later. I'm gonna try to squeeze the install in today, I got a ton of crap to do today, and might end up out in the garage at 2 am doing the deed.
I'll keep you posted on how they work, and maybe some pics if I can remember.

Non-Moto / Finally got my daughter to ride
« on: March 14, 2011, 09:22:39 AM »
Well yesterday i finally got my daughter on her bike. 07 RM85, I origionally gave her the KX100 but she was intimidated by it's power after seeing me ride it,  >:D lol. So my wife claimed it.
Any who....
My buddy that got the soon to be open NDFS OHV park together, has a son that's her age, and he rides, they met a couple of weeks ago while we were cutting trail for the park. And I think she wants to impress him, lol.
 so ....
She asked if we were going riding this weekend last tuesday,  ;D, and of course I was stoked.
She decided she wanted to ride the RM85, my friends son rides an RM125  ::) go figure, huh? And keep in mind this 85 is pimped, SST pipe, shorty, Vforce3,hinson clutch,...But I think it's smaller stature is less intimidating to her, hahaha, or she just wants to ride yellow like her new "friend"
Either way the RM smokes the KX, which it bone stock besides the FMF Q, and suspension valving.
So I get out on the open road at the area, and tell her to start it up, lmao,(she has ridden a motorcycle before, it was an XR100 that was rebuilt by son dumbass, off timing and had about a 1/2" of gasket sealer on the base gasket, so it was a total roach). she kicked it 15 times before she figured out the feel, then she proceeded to stall it out 20 times. The plug fouled, and I changed it from a 10 to a 9, and WOW it ran better, not even sure why the 10 was in there. So she gets it going and gets up to second gear just giving it enough gas to keep it moving, and gets about 3/4 of a mile down the road and stops at a mud puddle. OK so she pushes the bike around the puddle, and gets back on, the whole time she's sitting on the back of the seat, she's 5'9", and I keep telling her to move up ion the seat and keep your elbows bent, she's ignoring me, haha. so I'm parked in front of her, and she starts going, sitting on the back of the seat like iI told her not to do, arms almost straight, and she turms the bars left to go around me and gets a big hand full of throttle!! HAHA I was laughing and terrified at the same time.she was headed right at a big pine tree, she turned right and over corrected, but let off the throttle, for a second till she recorrected and got another big handfull of throttle. which actually straightened her out and she grabbed the clutch and front brake and came to a stop.
When I got up to her she was stark white, and almost crying, still sitting on the back of the seat. I asked her why she thinks that happened, and she's like "IDK"
so I told her to turn the bars, and she did and that's when she realized that she was over extending her arms, well she moved up on the seat, and after some coaxing and compleiments, we got going again. she was doing ok. but refused to shift up to third, lol, which resulted in another visit to "In the pipe land" she finally started to shift up after that.

Next weekend...

By now I'm sure most of you are familiar with me as an active forum member. I love 2 stroke motorcycles! I love riding, racing, working on and drooling over others sweet 2 stroke off-road/mx bikes.
This sport is the most physically demanding sport on the planet.
And I am a smoker. Not a proud smoker, an addict of a product that was literally forced down my throat during my youth.
I was born in the early 70's, when cigarettes were advertised on television commercials as much as McDonald's Restaraunts are today. Everyone "cool" on TV smoked, Hell everyone smoked.
There were smoking areas at my middle school and high school. There was Joe Camel, and the Camel Supercross, the Marlboro Man, I'm sure you "crusters" remember, I'm just setting the scene for our younger Forum members.
I started smoking at 13, and by the time I was 16 I was smoking a pack a day. I knew the risks, I saw the pictures of black and cancerous lungs. But it was cool and sophisticated, and I was, as many are, a stupid teenager, and in a big hurry to be an adult. I have now been a smoker for 25 years, and although I have made many , many attempts to quit, have failed every time. On New Years Day, I decided to quit again, this time for good. I didn't smoke for 3 days, cold turkey. I was a nervous wreck, I decided that could reward myself with a small cigar for my progress, man that was the best 75 cent cigar I ever had, by the end of the week I was smoking 3 a day, which, compared to my 2 pack a day cigarette habit was small change. I still wanted to break the addiction which lead me to the cigars, I called the Florida Quit Line, and talked with a counseler, decided on the Nicotine lozenges, and set my quit date. The package arrived and I didn't buy anymore cigars, for a couple of weeks. I bought a pack of cigarettes one day after forgetting to take my lozenges. A week later I am still smoking, albiet, 3 packs a week, as opposed to 2 packs a day. And using the lozenges to take the edge off of the cravings.
Truth be told, I am proud that I have cut my Nicotine intake down to a 1/4 of what it was, I feel better, I'm not waking up coughing up golf ball sized chunks of phlem anymore. But, I am still addicted. And it sucks.
I have on smoke left in this pack, I will not buy a pack today.
I will not buy a pack tomorrow.
I will break this stupid addiction.
And I will kick you in the ass if I see your stupid teenage ass light up that first cigarette. (Directed towards my kids, but will be glad to boot yours too, if given permission too if you aren't there to do it yourself)
If you're a kid and reading this, it's really not worth it, NO ONE thinks it's cool anymore.

Technical / 1999 kx60 leaky water pump
« on: January 19, 2011, 09:06:11 AM »
Hey guys, It looks like my kx 60 has a leaky waterpump seal, the oil is milky, and it blew a bunch of water out the tail pipe, after much hassle starting it.
does anyone have the service manual, with a schematic, and replacement instructions they'd be willing to scan and email me??
I think the water pump is integrated into the clutch cover so seal replacement is possible with out splitting the cases, am I right on this?? I hope so.. :-X

 thanx in advance

Technical / VIN # HELP PLEASE
« on: January 16, 2011, 11:26:23 AM »
Hey guys I am in need of some serious professional help.
Not mental, lol, but I'm about to be if I don't get this Vin figured out.
I have what is supposed to be an 81' or 82' Yamaha Y-Zinger (PW) 50
it has all the Yamaha engine covers, oil tank cap, yamaha markings on oil pump cover, and the majority of original parts that can be marked ,the original yellow tank with the old decal and Yamaha logo on the cap.,
but the vin is 10 digits with a dash in the 4th spot????

       4X4-007595

same number on the motor
everything I have found on vins states it was made in the USA, in 2004, no specific make, model, size, or manufacturer
any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope I didn't get snookered into buying a knock off.
