Photos & Videos / Robbie Marshall is fast......
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:30:46 AM »
In a 450 field as deep as it is, if Marshall can run top 10 consistently, expect Decoster and the Austrian army to come knocking, carrying a plethora of parts !!  :o

Any update on if he will run southwick on his own ??

pretty sure marshall is planning on running all of the rounds, but 5 of them for tsm, the others he'll be on a 450

Ahh Damn, that is not what I wanted to hear. You guys have got to come up with a way to get him to ride a two stroke at Southwick. PLEASE !!! He will kill it there and the exposure you get will be unreal. Please make it happen !!

General Two Stroke Talk / Breaking News!

Massive news if this is true. Maybe Luongo isn't so crazy after all. That is the last time we will see Honda at the World GP's though.

And a World GP here in Aus next year as well. That would be awesome !!

This has been getting plenty of media exposure. I'm surprised it has caught on, cos you need to know who the old guy is to "get" it.

General Two Stroke Talk / The Ultimate YZ250
« on: May 04, 2013, 11:36:44 PM »
The problem with product placement (if that's what this is) in articles like this and the KTM one, is that it removes the objectiveness of the writer. If pro circuit pays MXA to do something like this, then you as the reader are just getting told what Pro circuit wants you to hear, not what the writer actually thinks of the product.
To do an objective "ultimate" build, they should have compared products from a number of different sources and tried different combinations....to come up with the best bike.

Spot on Evo, that is the difference !! Would definitely be an interesting read if done that way.

General Two Stroke Talk / Engine choice
« on: May 02, 2013, 02:20:46 PM »
I think what you need is a Tandem twin 700cc, cylinders tilted at 30 / 40 degrees forward, gearbox underneath, one chamber forward and under the bike, other out under the seat. 140 HP. Chrome molly ladder frame and spoke wheels. Nice fat noisy chambers. Well that's what I would like! I've often thought about such a cafe racer. As 2T says anything with Rotary Valve.
Although I do have patterns for a three cylinder ( 1050cc ) case reed engine just needs a gearbox cases added to the pattern. I haven't owned a road bike in 30 years ( XS1100 last road bike ) and look at the modern road bikes with distaste, all the same. A large twostroke twin or three would be quite nice I'd say.
Good looking Honda though.

Carlo Mattaroti has already done similar though just 250cc.

God damn 2T .... That looks amazing. Any more info or specs on that thing, and what it is going to be ??

I saw numerous bikes, with cracked frames, broken swingarms, cracked hubs, etc, which were at the time covered under warranty by KTM. Too many to be just limited to a small batch, but obviously isnt going to happen to all of them. It was enough to make it worth mentioning when talking about older bikes.

Gotta say, talking early 2000's, I wouldnt be going anywhere near a KTM or Husky from that vintage. Those bikes had serious problems. Cracking frames, snapping swingarms, etc type of problems. If you are limiting yourself to early 2000 model bikes, the YZ easily wins that race !!

Never heard that and I had 2 of them-a couple issues with some later years though but covered under warranty.
My 02 SX had the motor of doom and would absolutely destroy any jap bike of that year-including the YZ.My buddies YZ was nowhere close. He had better suspension but I could typically pull a gear higher than him anywhere and had more bottom, mid and top. Both of mine were bulletproof reliability-wise.They had your typically niggly euro stuff that had to be sorted out from the get go but after that,I loved it-and wouldn't mind having it back.If you want the most bang for your buck and a quality machine, that's what I'd be looking it..followed by the YZ.The CR's,RM's and KX's of those years are nothing to write home about imo.

KTM were defintely good with their warranties, but the fact that problems of that proportion were occuring was scary enough. There motors were definitely fast. Definitely a stand out.

General Two Stroke Talk / Well that sucks

Some speculate that KTM CEO just wanted Husqvarna out of the way, and using whatever technologies are fit for further development in KTM bikes then letting the brand die was the initial plan, altogether.

That sentence I find very interesting. Speculation, but still, it will be interesting on how it plays out. Would have very big ramifications world wide if Husky are over and out. I have a good mate who owns a husky dealership, and has done well with the brand over here in the last few years. To suddenly have not that brand exist any longer would be quite a shock. The initial press release stated that they wanted the brand to get back to its racing roots. To then suddenly ditch it completely, well that would be a tragedy.

One sweet ride. I was interested to see how good they were able to get the standard suspension. That Showa stuff though would make that bike amazing.

General Two Stroke Talk / KTM REVEALS SOME PLANS FOR HUSQVARNA
« on: April 29, 2013, 10:29:52 AM »
Well, they just closed down the Husky factory and sacked 200 of their staff.

not looking good for huskies future.

That was likely always going to happen. They were looking at, and i dare say will be, moving the factory to India.

To roll one of those out at a vintage meet, now that would be something. Gotta say though, that YZ, what on earth were they thinking when they put a red chain on it ?? Uuuuurrrgggghhhhhh
