My TM's an 09 but i've got some microblue bearings coming for it. It's my CR that needs mains.
The TM and CR and KX's and RM's and probably just about every other 2T 250 all have 63/28 mains. Now I've used aftermarket kits before and pretty sure they've all been C3. Now looking through my TM manual and doing a little research am thinking C4 is required.
All the TM manuals spec C4 but interestingly mine came stock with C3, go figure.
Just hoping for some input from guys in the know.

Yeah my TM manual lists C4 also but the mains it came with are C3 and i believe most of the aftermarket main kits i've used ie allballs and most of the koyo and nsk kits are all C3.

Technical / Piston Diagnosis

Looks like you left the ring in too long on the TM.
Craig at MXparts has wossener in stock for them. I got him to bring some in a couple of years ago.
Yeah that piston's at the end of it's life at 60 hours but it's had 3 rings during that time so na wasn't any sort of lack of maintenance.
Yeah i get my pistons and most of my other parts from motocrossparts.co.nz they seem to have the best prices and quick delivery.

Here are a couple pics of pistons that have been damaged.
Both from my bikes, one's pretty obvious lets see if anyone gets the other.
These first three are from my TM300MX

These next three are CR250

Sorry those pics didn't come out very well.

These are supercars.  :P

This one pumps out 900 WHP and 900 NM

Video of their old one which had abit too much power, effed up the chassi and stuff..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd have to see a dyno run to believe that sedan has 900 at the wheels, maybe for a short time at an extreme tune but in that vid be closer to 600. I'm just guessing and no expert mind you but i've seen my share of hard tuned turbo sports cars.

Technical / Bottom end maintenance schedule.

yeah, 100 hours is playing it pretty safe definitely. At 100 hours all my bearings are in great shape with no real signs of wear at all. Could probably go much much longer especially if you're mostly trail riding.
I've actually got some microblue mains for her this time so that could push service life out even further.

Well i just split my cases for the first time after 100 hours and everything is in real good condition. I'm going to do all the bearings while it's apart but they really don't need it. It really depends on how good you are with your maintenance though, if you don't clean your airfilter enough or change your trans oil enough then your motor will wear out faster.
I change trans oil after every race meeting or every second practice session and filter after every ride and i'm happy to leave my bottom end for 150 hours. This in a 300 though, a 125 would need done more often.
You can check side play on your bigend with feeler gauges at each rebuild and check your mains for play by giving the flywheel a good shake once in awhile to keep an eye on things.

Rev limiter??? whats that doing on there. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that totally unnecessary on a 2T?

missed last years series due to good old lack of money ,Cromwell bites hard not my favourite but somewhere when everything craps out club day this weekend in alex could be good likewise im on a tm as well so easy to spot
Nice, What model you on? i've got the 300MX. Are you gonna race this years SS?

27
hey total you doin the southern series seems a bit later this year
Just checked your profile, says you're from central otago? i just raced the central otago champs in cromwell. Had a nightmare though, jammed throttle wide open in 3rd gear and cartwheeled my bike into the boundry fence. Not a good day racing that day.

Yep planning on it, haven't checked the dates. There's a bit of a shortage of events to race in these parts so the southern series is a must. Do you race it? i would've raced against you if you race vets, i'm the only TM so hard to miss.

29
Yeah i race 2 classes usually, Vet's and intermediate which i guess is like Bgrade over there. but Vet's is often the biggest class, and usually has the most 2t bikes in it.

Great race report, despite the drama's i bet you left with a smile on your face and amping for the next one. Thats why we do it i guess.
