Thanks for that, Yeah that squish seems real loose. Mine was 1.4 stock.

the SX 250 is looking very sexy with all the billet off the 350 bolted on  8) 8)

i am in the process of movies my girls back to Europe for my daughters schooling , so the TM's will be at the house there and the SX 250 will be my ride here in Indonesia .

the SMX is great we had some fitment issues with the scalvini pipe but my mate is sorting it , i also got the squish , head volume and ignition specs from the factory on what to run so that is being done now .
work has been so busy i have not much of a chance to ride it but we have to pay for the toys some how don't we :-}

eprovenzano yes it was the 350 that i was riding , my elbow feels strong as ever now so back on the 2 stroke but my riding fitness has turned to **** damn them 4 strokes make you into a lazy cooont
Any chance you'd share the factory recommendations? I've set the squish at 1.1 on my 300 but would be keen on hearing head volume and ignition.

I'd start with the suspension, that'll make the most difference in the real world.
There are little things you can do while the cases are apart though, Matching the barrel to the crankcase is pretty easy and should make it run a little harder. Also if you haven't already done so you should measure and set your squish. Also do your best to remove all the carbon from inside the expansion chamber, 100+ hours worth of carbon will kill the performance of that pipe.
If you do get an aftermarket complete crank, take it to your local engine builder and get him to check it's true. They might be able to improve on how it comes out of the box.

How about Weston Peick?
Hell yeah Weston Peick would be perfect. So much natural talent it's crazy, and a realistic chance of being able to sign him.

Looking good, but personally i'd ditch those KTM shrouds and put some RM ones back on.

Don't panic, She'll feel a bit tight at first. New seals and grease in the new bearings will do that.
Looks like you're doing a top job of the rebuild.

General Two Stroke Talk / 2012 KTM 250SX Issues
« on: July 09, 2013, 06:50:24 PM »
The dirt you say is on the carby side of the filter is definitely whats causing your issues, i have absolutely no doubt of that. You just need to find out where its coming from.

If there's dirt on the inside of the filter then thats definitely your problem and you'll keep chewing through top ends untill you find where it's coming from.
As has been mentioned make sure you run your finger around the edge of the filter to make sure it's seated right, i'm guessing thats your problem. Also check where the boot meets the air box and silicone it to make sure.

Technical / Main bearing clearance
« on: July 06, 2013, 12:33:20 AM »
Excuse my stupidity but whats the difference between C3 & C4? And what does it mean?
C3 or C4 refers to the internal clearance in the bearing. A C4 bearing is usually specced for higher heat applications as it has a slightly bigger clearance.

Technical / Piston Diagnosis

have you checked the tm's airbox is sealed properly , my first piston looked very similar to yours and it was caused by a s#@t seal job at the factory  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley"> ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley"> ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley">
Hey Steve welcome. Do you have a TM too?
Na airbox is sealed up well, There was pitting in the barrel from porosity in the casting from new. The plating was far from perfect right from the start, I noticed it first time i had the barrel of at 20hrs. The plating has just flaked away in big chunks starting from the small pits.
I had hoped it would last a little longer, But now when i replate it with a high quality job from NZcylinders it'll be better than new.

You dont bore cylinders these days its a nickaseal plated sleeve. In order to go to a bigger piston you half to have a new sleeve installed. You only bore cylinders with steel sleeves.
Firstly it's nikasil secondly bikes these days don't have a nikasil plated sleeve as you put it. The nikasil is a very thin coating straight on the alloy barrel, no sleeve. sleeves are steel usually and old school. He want's to go from 125 too 144 or 150 so he's gonna have to bore the cylinder, then either replate or steel sleeve.

Technical / Piston Diagnosis

Yeah the CR piston is pretty obvious, thats what happens when she's pinging her head off and you ignore it. Combination of lean jetting and old fuel, oops. Had the jets on order too, thought i'd get one more ride in.
The TM's a different story, Was starting to feel a bit soft so i pulled the barrel to find the piston looking like that. What a mess, Pretty disappointed actually this has been the first real problem with the TM. To be honest i'd noticed some porosity in the casting  previously and was never happy with the quality of the nickel plating in the barrel but didn't think this would happen.

Oh well off to the platers. This still doesn't change my opinion of the brand though, The majority of the other components are of a very high quality and beautifully made. Wish they'd payed bit more attention to the plating though.

yeah saw them, ouch im getting up to 60 hrs now on my piston ,had two rings in the mean time so not so bad but will overhaul before something bad happens ,looks like the new conrods from tm are quite well priced so ill do that and look at a double ringed wossner  ,got to figure out what size yet I think my barrel has got a c stamp but last time I pulled it down the piston had size markings for a a stamp so a barrel measure might be required I think.
I wouldn't worry too much they'll do 60 hours easy with a couple of ring changes, that piston looks that way because of another problem. I'll post up pics on the other post. I wouldn't bother with the twin ring piston i just use the wossner single ring. Mine doesn't have different sizing options, there's just one size available and it's been sweet as.
TM use a proX rod as standard so shop around and you may find one cheaper still. It's the same rod as the case reed CR's so fairly common.
