General Two Stroke Talk / who rides what?
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:10:33 PM »
I'm using a 2000 EC200, and RM250 for woods riding duties, and will soon have a 99 EC300 on the track. Still trying to find the time for the 82 Maico 490...I replaced the rear shock with an Ohlins, and just need to finish up some details. 77 YZ250, and 79 YZ125 also need time and attention. I also have a street RZ350, and one for the track. I'm thinking I can say I'm a "2 stroke enthusiast" ... just don't tell anyone about my Cannondale/ATK addiction... :o

Technical / even though I'm becoming more anti-Honda all the time,
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:56:21 AM »
I do still have some love left from my late 80s CR250 affiliation... but  recently,I've come to "want" an aluminum framed 250.
I have looked at these before, but am not sure of the differences,if any, between the years. Now, I've found a decent prospect (2000 model), near me, but for $1250, I need to know more. I think the 01 is a better bike, (I've heard) but need more info... would some knowledgeable soul please advise me of the changes Honda made thru the models of aluminum framed 250s, before Honda , in their truly infinte wisdom , nixxed the 2t from their moto fleet ... >:(   plus I'm pretty sure I can get this bike , a little bit cheaper, as in, sub $1K ...after all, it is a "2 stroke" ... ;)

Hi , as member of Southern MD Dirtriders, I was afforded the opportunity to flag the amateur day races at the Triple Up jump set, and wanted to say , I was impressed to see many 2 strokes, in many (full size) classes ! More importantly, they seemed to be doing quite well ! CRs, YZs, RMs, KXs, and KTMs ! It smelled good ! Even a lone Banshee did very well in one of the quad classes ! On a sidenote, our club had 12 no-shows/no calls for the pro race on Sat. ! WTH ? Free "front-row" seating for the Budds Creek Pro Nat'l , and local completion of the workday requirement  for club membership, and they bitched -out ? Where are the moto-ethics , these days ?

General Two Stroke Talk / so ...
« on: January 12, 2011, 07:50:27 PM »
what if someone goea out and buys up a bunch of 2t mx bikes, 125cc, and bigger, restores them , or converts 'em to woods bikes, whatever ... is there a market for them ?   How about NEW Gassers, TMs, Huskys ,etc ? Heck Husaberg is even trying to sell 2t bikes now... even if they are "re-badged" KTMs ... Beta is coming out with a line of Gasser powered 2t bikes, as well as Fantic ...and that pesky German company seems to feel there's still a market for 2t ... Isn't the AMA jammed up Honda's ass anyway ? Is THAT why the rules are such as they are ? 250 4t vs 250 2t ... that should just about do it ... hope I don't get banned for this ! I love this place !
Bring on the DI 2t !  on a Rotax powered ATK ! or a CanAm ! WOW ! sign me up !

please elaborate , I'm probing for dirt ... before the impending Indy show Feb.18 ...

Technical / Re: real cool, wheel school
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:24:34 AM »
ah , good ! then I will go with the OEM hub set up, with my spoke set,and Excel rim , I'm too old for the "bling" factor, I just didn't realize there was no worthy strength, or weight benefit by going aftermarket(Talon)... thanx for the replies, you've helped to set me straight.

I need to learn more about building wheels. As in , replacing 19"  "MX" rims with 18" rims for offroad use... the initial problem is, finding the hubs. Yup, Talons are $450./retail. But they aren't readily available for non-current (older model) bikes. You know, the ones that NEED them. Either due to wear,or damage, the older bikes are in need. Yes, the fast guys trash 'em on late model bikes, but the older ones are where there is a demand. So , where can I find them ? The parts warehouses have "complete" wheels , and rim/spoke sets listed, but what if one wants to change the rim size , on the OEM hub ? If I already have it apart, I may as well replace the hub with a nifty aftermarket unit, right ? Does anyone offer the hubs seperately ? That's the missing link ... I'm trying to change a Y2K RM250 from 19" to 18", and I've already bought a rim/spoke set. Hubs fit '96-'00, and then '01-?...I'm working(shopping) the Ebay thing also ... thanx for the assist ! GasGas comes with 18" rims on the rear ...

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: GasGas 2t bikes
« on: September 15, 2010, 04:43:22 AM »
thanx for the replies... the new importer does have a container of '11s in the country as of last week, with another on the way. 99% of them are 2t. There is a seperate importer for the trials line, but they are working together to develop a stronger dealer network. The fellow handling that, is an offroad racer, with experience in the industry. I'll be on one soon !  300cc 2t, w e-start ! AND ,rumor has it , they are developing a DI 2t !

General Two Stroke Talk / GasGas 2t bikes
« on: August 01, 2010, 08:55:25 AM »
Anyone here have 1st hand knowledge of these bikes? Is there any demand for them ? Reliablity issues ? I know about the sites specific to them, but I'd like to hear more , from someone who has ridden/owned one ... I had a conversation with a dealer about the 4t , and was informed briefly, that it is a good bike, that was an answer to the 450 bike... but I wanna know about the smoker ! thnx

« on: January 24, 2010, 11:19:24 AM »
yeh, I got a radiator shroud, for one side from a guy out west, but it's white, and I think that's for a '81 model. '82 bikes are "red" shrouds... anyone got'em ?   The fenders I saw were from VMX racing. Don't they come from Maier ?

I need plastics, and would love to find any decent aftermarket exhaust pipe/muffler combo,or other goodies. Thanx ! Who's going to York,PA. on  Jan.24th ?
