Open Forum / The officially official hunting/fishing/outdoor thread

I had the Vmax out for the first time over the last few days. It's the only snow we've had this year. Tried to get the wife into it, but she was content to sit on the back.

I'm trying with the Mrs., but the water makes her a little nervous.
It's a Scott Explorer. We've had it for about 25 years, and it's been a great canoe. 14' and 56 lbs. it's easy to handle.
We're looking at a Scott 12' Kevlar. 40 lbs. will make my job a little easier.
I expect to take a trip with my older son this year. He likes some late season back woods, and that's OK with me.

Same year - different trip (sorry for the wrong bike)

This the ferry crossing the abitibi river

Mrs Bean prefers hiking, but my preference is in the canoe, so we try split it up.

We spend as much time in the north as we can.

Technical / What two stroke pre mix is best?

Definitely not placebo affect. The difference really was that big, and I wasn't looking for it either time.
I find that very hard to believe.

So did I. Like i said, if somebody told me, I probably wouldn't believe it either.

One of our club members has to be almost 80, still races in the super vet class, and he's not slow, either. He stands on his pegs about 99% of the time. Another member that posts here, Helmut Clasen is a local legend, and must be in his 70's. He still competes.

I'm 50, with an ACL reconstruction that's 25 years old, arthritis and a pending knee replacement too. Doc says put it off as long as possible, but the funny thing is, since I started racing (didn't ride for most of those 25 years), the knee bothers me less. I think the 125 is good therapy, and the 2 smoke must be good lube for my joints   ;D

My dad was racing cars at 65, and I expect to still be on the bikes. I'm getting more into the vintage stuff lately. May as well play with kids (and bikes) my own age.

Probably viscosity. I expect the the injector oil will be thinner.

I'm going to move this here, as it was the reason I brought the thread back, but is probably lost in the new page. There seems to be some decent technical knowledge here. I'd like to see is anybody has an idea why this is happening.

So forgive me for dragging up an old oil thread, but this is the reason I found the forum.
I was looking for an answer to something that I can't explain, and google led me to this thread, which has had a decent technical component to to.
4 years ago, when i bought my RM 125, I was trying different oils (mostly an availability thing) and ended up with some Belray H1R. I immediately noticed a power increase. A significant power increase. I didn't believe it was possible, so I did some back to back testing. It was a very obvious, and very significant difference.
A few weeks ago, I ran out of the Castrol GP 2 stroke I've been using in my vintage bike, and my dealer had a deal on Belray MC 1. I tried it, mixed at the same 40-1 and noticed a significant power increase. Exactly the same as the above, I was able to duplicate it.
Both times it was Belray, and both times the difference was significant. If somebody told me the same thing, I probably wouldn't believe it. The first time I chalked it up to possibly jetting, or the way the oil contributed to combustion, but exactly the same result twice on 2 different bikes.

Can somebody explain what's going on?

HGT port injection doesn't inject oil separately.  You still have to mix.

I know, that's why I mentioned it.

They might get 5%, but you might be able to get that same 5% on tuning the carb. I'm pro FI. It is better, there is no question, but, assuming the TB and carb bores are the same, FI won't give you any more power over a properly tuned carb. You will get better drivability, starting, and fuel economy, but assuming airflow is similar, power will also be similar. I've worked extensively with both.

Correct me if I am wrong but DI has yielded substantial power increases in (4T) automobiles.

You can make a little more power with DI, but this is not DI, it's FI.

Great video, and awesome track!

I decided last year to run only natural terrain tracks. Luckily we still have a bunch of them here.
