General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Lectron vs. Smart Carb, vs Keihin
« on: October 03, 2017, 05:52:00 AM »
I'm sure that both are good, but the carb is not your problem.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I watched with great interest as the smart carb discussion accidentally kick started a Lectron discussion and people started buying them (and not smart carbs) in droves. The Lectron became the darling carb on Cafe Husky (and elsewhere), people singing their praises and boasting that the days of constantly jetting were over. Then came the custom metering rods, and the threads on which rod to use, how to set it up,  how to make the bike stop doing this and that - and lightly used Lectrons for sale. I found the whole thing really interesting on several fronts.

Anyway, if you're fouling plugs with the new oil at 60-1, you have either a jetting problem or low compression. The Husky bike that I ride is notorious for difficult jetting and many mistakenly swap the TMX out for a PWK or Lectron. The real problem is that they have very low compression, especially with the 144 factory big bore. So I increased my compression and fixed the squish. Now (still with the TMX) I have no spooge and crisp power from top to bottom.

Fatty installed and +2 rear sprocket are on. I machined up a pair of bar risers and an adapter to run a spare husky 5.0 spring, and it's Much better. The gearing helped a lot, but the power and is a still a little in the twitchy side. Have to get in there and see how to adjust it. That will have to wait until after vacation.

They are really good motors. Probably the best thing on the bike.

I had one of those for 6 or 7 years. It was a good solid reliable bike.

Bottom end? of course,  just wondered if anybody here had experience with these motors. I've done a fair bit of looking online, and there's almost no info on these bikes. I'm really surprised.

I'm going to do the same as I did with my Husky. clean up the ports, increase compression, correct the squish, and pipe it. It was worth a fair bit of power, and made the power much more linear. I have a Fatty pipe on the way, and already have a +2 tooth rear sprocket. I figure +1 was my go-to, but since it's a smaller bike with less torque, +2 might be more better.

Will keep you posted.

OK guys, it's a been some time since I've posted here. I know the site was down for a long time, I hope some of the regulars are still here.

So last year I bought a Husky WR300 as an experiment. I thought more power was more better, but the bike was just too much for me. WAY too much. So I sold it, and this year I  decided to go in a separate direction, and bought a KTM105 to use as my woods bike. During hare scrambles my Husky (2011 CR150) just feels too big in the tight woods, and after about 30 minutes, fighting it just tires me out. So I'm going in the other direction. Since I'm the size of a teenager, I'm 5'6"/145 I'm trying something completely different, and bought a 2011 SX105. After a few rides now I can say that I don't think I've ever been faster in the woods. I whip through the tight stuff like it's nothing, and can do it lap after lap.

So I'm working on the suspension, ordered a Fatty pipe for it, but I'm wondering if anybody here has any tips, experience, or ideas on how to make this bike work a little better for the woods, or just more power overall? I don't really need any more power, it's actually more than fast enough for me in the woods, but could use a little more for the MX sections.

Hoping some here have experience with these bikes.

I wish I'd seen this before, I would have pointed you in another direction.

I raced an 04 RM125 for about 5 years, then bought a 2011 Husky CR. Within a few weeks I went from being a midpack rider to winning races and by the end of the year, won the division.

Suspension every bit as good as the YZ (exactly the same forks),  way better handling than the RM, and loads of potential with that motor. The Italian Husky two stroke is definitely an underrated bike.

2011 Husqvarna CR150
Third place in our club's offroad endurance series, and finished the year off with a very strong second overall in our annual six hour hare scramble.
It was my best ride of the season, and will be the focus of my training for next season. Unfortunately most of that practice riding will be on a KLX250s. It's just so handy being able to ride over to the HS course, and put a few hard hours in after supper.

Specifications for two stroke oil are as follows.

Get yourself a JASO FC or ISO-L-EGC or D oil, and you'll be fine. You should have numerous options in a non-synthetic.

I don't know what you can get there. Can you get Esso easy mix? I think it is a synthetic (or blend), but it's really inexpensive here, and supposed to be quite good.
One of  the guys I ride with told me he used Castrol super 2 stroke for years without a single problem. He's also our club's #1 pro, and he's not easy on stuff.

. Just looked at some amsoil and it came in at $93 for 3.7 litres. Thats ****ed. Royally. I could mix and jet for 20:1 and still save money with mineral. So in all seriousness: What kind of losses am I looking at? Wear? Performance? Ego?

That's what I paid for a case of 12, 1 liter bottles of Dominator :o

Buy a decent brand name mineral oil and mix at 32-1. You'll be fine.

Few would dispute that synthetic oil is better, but when mixed appropriately, non synthetic oils are fine.

Can you not get Amsoil at a decent price as a dealer or preferred customer? Even in Canada where syn. oil is crazy expensive, we can get Amsoil for a good price direct.
