Also, what weight fork oil should I use? I just trail ride. Are those fork relief valves worth getting too?

Technical / RM 250 Fork question
« on: May 25, 2010, 04:26:35 PM »
Hey guys I have a question. This is my 96 RM 250. I have a seal leak on the right side of the fork. I know that stock 96 forks were inverted from what I have, but I need to replace the seals. I'm not totally sure what kind of forks I have on there. I took the plastic off so you guys could have a better view. I have updated plastics and engine in there, so I swear it's not a 99 or 00 bike. I just need to know what year forks I have if not aftermarket. Thanks

Depends how you define the cylinder  ;D . Yes, I meant piston.

Helfrick, those bikes looks great. I love it when people bring these bikes back to life. Miedoso, love the Honda 250, and keep us posted on that RM 250.

Wow! That thing definately looks like you just cracking it out of the crate. Good work! Now I'll ask the no response question again.....Roughly how much for the resto? No one will freak out, I promise.  :P

That's funny. The 2 stroke is rising again! It's amazing it took almost a decade for people to realize that 4 strokes were overpriced.

Technical / Re: rm crankshaft
« on: May 14, 2010, 08:31:41 AM »
In 2000 Suzuki reduced inertia in the crank by 5%. This basically balanced out the crankshaft for more power. I believe that is the only difference. The only noticable difference in the engine is that the piston in a '99 is a dome design and a '00 is flat top. I think 96-00 cranks are all interchangable.

Maicoman, I hope you get your "old" bike back again. But the KTM's are real nice to ride. My friend's dad has a 450 with electric start and kickstand.  :P

Opfermanmotors, There are a few places still left around here to ride that I know about. There is always Ocala National forest which has miles on miles of trails where you need a GPS to prevent yourself from getting lost. There is a little spot behind a community in Hobe Sound and a cool spot in Vero Beach. As for tracks, Thundercross is in Okeechobee. PM me if you want details.

Looks amazing! Super clean. Honda's are definately fast so you shouldn't have any problems racing.

Thanks maicoman! Yeah the suzuki's are definately a blast to ride. I really fell in love with mine. I love going into the garage and seeing it sitting there. I rode a built 95 Honda CR250 not too long ago and man I wouldn't mind having one of those too. So I guess you're riding Maico now? SachsGS, that's very interesting. Riffraff, since I'm a cop, I looked my VIN up through the DMV database and I'm the only one in the title history. Oh well, I guess I'll never know if a pro rode my bike. I even tried to research the number on that Pro AMA decal that's on the frame but no luck. When I got the bike with the original blown 96 engine, It said "Dyno Port" on the jug, had a Wiseco Piston, and Carbon Fiber Reeds. The bike is totally tricked out with aftermarket parts too.

That would be nearly impossible to accomplish. Oh well, not woth that much effort. Thanks for all the info. As mentioned above, I think a magazine would be awesome.
