Easiest check is to remove the spark plug and the magneto cover.
Carefully rock the flywheel back and forth.

If you "feel" slop in that rotation at all then the big end bearing is gone.  If you can't then you probably would need at least a top end teardown to check with more precision.

That really bites.

It wasn't Trey Cannard that took him out was it?   ;D

Tough to get a good start when you can't hear your own bike over all that four stroke noise pollution!

Marshall's 2:26 would put him smack dab in the middle of the 250 A2 group qualifiers. CC for CC racing rules evidence right there!

Lorenz times were down 2 seconds on the LCQ race best qualifier Stewart. BUT right in there with the next 4 riders. He really stands a good chance of a top 4 finish!

WOW Lorenz kicked butt!

2nd round, Marshall with a 2:28.8 (so far)  which seems pretty quick but that is 30th in his group.
RV2 is way ahead of everyone else with 2:16.

Marshall just pulled a 2:26, good for 25th in his group. that would put him in 1st place in group B so he is in!

second b qualifier times are getting faster ,957 legad 2:31.035 , 881 lorenz 2:31.835 , 431 marsh 2:34.389, 950 laporte 2:37.305. p-3,6,11,and17 respectively. marsh with a burner on lap 5. all in as of now but we can imagine a2 qualifier will be quicker as well. cross your fingers.

And this is because of the quality of the suspension? Or is there a handling difference as well?  More stable on the '07? Less swapping? Better in the air? The '07 motor is easier to manage? More power? That seems like a big difference for bikes that both have 12" of travel, water cooling, and disk brakes and probably weigh within 5 lbs of each other. I guess 20+ years of development really have moved things forward!

I suppose you can compare laptimes to get a sense of that. Of course that quagmire track chnaged from minute to minute so its not quite real...

So do you folks think if Jerry was on a practice track and kept going back and forth between the '07 and '85 bikes that his lap times would be hugely different? What specifically does the '07 do so much better than his trusty '85?

At the training facility he rode at before Loretta's (SOB MX) they did mock races everyday.  On the '85 he was a 5 thru 10th place guy, on the '07 he was 1st thru 3rd regularly.

Photos & Videos / Vintage Yamaha 125 - now a 175!

Did some more jetting work and replace main seals on this "175" over the past few weeks. Also put some fox emulsion shocks on the rear replacing the stiff-as-a-board KYB gas shocks (that may be from a TT500).  Rear end works much better.

got a chance to ride it yesterday. Here is video of a couple of hills in my riding area. 3 minutes into the video you can see why I wanted the 175 hardware in the engine -- I blow a shift but can still make the (snotty) hill!

They found a donor bike and stole the engine out of it so he ran 250B with that. He rode the '07 loaner bike in the two stroke class.

I read his bike blew up in practice. Was he riding the 86 or a different bike?

9th, 18th and 15th gave him a 11th overall -- on a bomber bike.

So, either bikes have not made such great strides in the past couple of decades or...
He is the man when it comes to MX.

I am thinking its a little of both.

Jerry Robin - the 16-year-old on a 1985 CR 250 - was on NBC today when they aired their coverage of the racing at Loretta Lynn's. They even did a segment on him before the race and told the story behind him and his bike.

Riding 250B he got a 9th, 18th and a 15th and he was riding an antique out there. Pretty amazing.
