Open Forum / What do you do with old pistons?
« on: August 03, 2013, 04:48:34 AM »
I'm not one to abuse the clutch, but some things need to be punished! Like my RM for example, as soon as that thing is going I'll be thrashing it for all the money and misery it's put me through  ;D

Abuse and use are 2 different things. A 125 clutch properly used needs several changes over a racing season. Since I only play ride these days they last longer but I am on my first replacement. Two things make power on a two stroke. The piston and the clutch (500's excluded). Show that RM some love and it will love you back, even if it's tough love.

Considering the level of competition in the NESC and 338 itself which I raced only once I applaude your results. Not easy. Nice.

Forget about pistons. I had stacks and stacks of abused clutch plates in the 80's I was proud to own and paid for. See my other response to a 125 thread. Bad clutch. Clutch must be punished :P.

The "hills" at DP aren't anything close to what is at HP.

They have one track, but I've only been on it a couple of times.

The best way to have fun on the DP hills is to go down them FAST. With the curves, ruts, leaves (wet days in the Fall can get interesting), roots, and sticks it makes the easy hillclimbs fun for those needing a little challange. Sounds like we need to plan a trip to Highland Park now that the kids are bigger.

I am a 2 stroke fan and what I will say has nothing to to with supporting the cause. 90% of the amazing things I have seen him do were on a 2 stroke. He grew up racing them and I believe the 4 stroke is a handicap for his riding style. He is past his prime but if he were to lose his factory ride and wanted to ride for fun on a 2 stroke he will be a "Dowd like" spoiler. Who here does not go faster when your having fun? Also he took time at a race to sign all the goodies the my kids and their friends presented to him at a race and even signed my arm (story there). So I say good guy (or at least decent) as a sports figure who belongs on the right bike for his riding style.

Did not know about that. Please send me some info. Thanks in Advance. Great track in Ocala (Hardrock MX) not far from there with several tracks. Last 2 years we wimped out after turkey day but for several years we did D-Town and then Hardrock Friday & Sat. Show up and give us a reason to clean air filters Thursday before football.

OK, Cool. But be advised my 2012 is WAY more advanced than your 09. I have the smaller clamp bolts on the front brake line, a clear advantage. Sadly I do not have the super slick white 2013 rear fender which adds so much more power. We are in RV site #2 up behind the lodge in a Fuzion toyhauler, See ya on the hillclimbs and the Tiki bar.

Early invite everyone. Heading back first half of thanksgiving week. Anyone who beats me on the GP track gets drinks on me that night. Don't care if I have to serve up the drinks or not, just want to scream our 125's with some other 2 strokes. One caveat. If you beat me on the GP track the next test is how fast to go DOWN the hill climbs and be able to stop before the trees greet you.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Two Stroke Talk / WTF ??? with nationals on TV????
« on: May 18, 2013, 02:13:01 AM »
How much do they want to kill this sport? Glad to get several live fooper cross races even though others are shown at odd times but the outdoor coverage is sofa-king stupid. First motos on one channel, second motos (125's) on another, and 250's on a third channel. Yes I know they are 250 and 450 but the classes are still the same to me. I don't mind that Nascar, F1, MLB, NFL, ect. gets preference over MX but pre-recorded fishing shows??? And I like fishing shows. Wheres Jodi when ya need him?

Back in the 80's there was an NESC race at a ski area. The Mogels were giant whoops going uphill and down. This seperated the men from the boys. Sadly I was one of the boys but several of the men were turned into girls after HUGE downhill getoffs. Wimped out but OK with it since I can still walk. Never under estimate another mans track.

I will pass through just before the race and install EMS in the Southwick Tractor Supply store. I would stay for the race but back at home is my wifes B-day and a hell of a  4th party in Madeira Beach. I sucked at that track but to watch a National there is awesome. One because of how fast the pro's go and two because of how many NE guys will give  them grief and place.

General Two Stroke Talk / YZ250 Engine Question
« on: May 07, 2013, 03:47:23 AM »
Simple fix. Replace every jet that is in the bowl. The ethanol ruined them. Can't clean them like the old days. A few bucks and it will run like new.
