General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Unadilla update
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:59:42 PM »
Tall order but I think a broken in full race backup engine is needed. No way to rebuild that fast. One more expense to add to the learning curve. Think about it, the factory rigs are loaded with any part or component so nothing can slow them down except a failure during the 2 moto's. Project 2 fifty can't have all that but will need an engine, forks, and shock the same calibur as the race bike as backups. Duct tape will keep the rest of the bike in the game. I have so many stories about how duct tape saved the day.

Non-Moto / Re: Going to Durhamtown in October

We have a group of 20 going the first part of Thanksgiving week. Not only is this an awesome place to ride the everybody including the owner goes out of their way to make sure you have a good time. Pro shop prices are OK and there is always a lot of good stuff on sale out front. They rent MX bikes, atv's, and rhino's. Cabins and full hookup RV sites as well. I know a lot go North to South for winter trips and I would highly recommend adding this stop in to try it out. They just had a new track built by Mark Barnett.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: 2010 YZ250 Set up
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:09:54 PM »
I ride an 08 YZ 250 which is the same bike. I run trails and tracks. I am 225 and run the stock springs. I found that backing off on compression and leaving rebound alone the bike works well on roots and rocks. Packing does not seem to happen (maybe I am to slow). I ride right in the center of the bike and let it move around under me and rely on the great suspention to make up for my mistakes. Been too long sine I owned a current CR to make a comparison. Great bike, good luck. FYI bleed air from forks every ride (not every day, every ride).

I would say that the best thing about my 08 YZ250 is the suspension that has saved my butt from big get off's at least 10 times. Everything else is perfect but the lack of bandages and plaster is priceless. I plan on getting a 2011 that will sit while I modify and use up my 08. Then I get the same great bike to start over new again. Years ago this would be a very bad plan but the bike is that good.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: RIP AMA National Series???

This is all bad stuff but I will not be upset if Birmingham AL gets a national. I live in FL and there is nothing close to us. Supercross DOES NOT COUNT. Nothing beats being next to the fence whereever you want to watch. Used to be Gatorback was the opener but that was before my time. Like I said this is bad stuff but if it means my 9 and 11 year olds get to see a National I am OK. Add it to the 2 stroke series or better yet see project Two 50 crack the top ten or five and I will personally clean Mikes bike (regardless of results). You can take that to the bank because we will be there. Duco.

Send small TSM stickers to all the pro's to put on their bikes or helmet in support. Then look for the stickers during the season.

Roll, grow, roll, grow. I went to a open practice at Sunshine MX in St pete for the first time in a long time. C group was at least 40% 2 stroke. A/B group was about 25% 2 stroke. Felt good to not be surounded by 4 strokes. The snowball is bigger than it seems. Roll, grow, repeat.

I think I now have a good reason to get to Buds Creek from FL this year. I want my kids to see the pro's since they have never seen anyone that fast before. The are 8 & 10 and are aware of the 4T displacement advantage so I thing they appreciate the 250 out there. Just need the ECO-NOMY to provide some work so I get the funds to do the trip. If not I will be glued to the TV. These are the new good old days.

When you over jump your first table or double and land on that little bump after the downside and are ready for crunch-ouch-my wrists-hope I make it and then somehow nothing bad happens you will love this thing. Give us a bike test report.

I have a question about mods to the SSS suspension. I know this is about a pro bike you are building and I am technically a squid but I am interested in anything worth doing to the suspension. Right now at 225 lbs I ride with stock springs. Based on my current speed, style, and overall ability this works great even high speed sand whoops. It is awesome in the ability to absorb the big hits as well as overall bumps. My problem is I am afraid to adjust it since it is so good now (I did do the clickers to dial it in). I remember buying a White Power shock for my (first) 87 CR500 that totaly transformed the bike. My question for those in the know is it worth upgrading the stock SSS or should I leave it alone. FYI even though I am a squid the best set up for me was used CR500s I bought from a distict 34 rider who raced the Nationals. He was WAAAY faster but the set up worked perfect in my world (slow motion). Thanks for any input from those who know the Yamaha SSS stuff.
