General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Riddle me this....
« on: October 28, 2010, 07:18:30 PM »
Just heard the the 2011 YZ250 "MAY" ?? be the last.  Gonna watch the TM's and the KTM's as the seem to be in my future. I love my 08 YZ250 but I did ride a KTM 300 at Ace and all I could say was Wow. I am a dedicated Yamaha 2 stroke fan but take my option away and ya lost me. I may only buy a bike every 3 to 4 years but the kids are getting to that new bike a year stage. Who wants our business I wonder.

Bike is all back together. No DLC fork coating but I got eveything else perormance wise (no cosmetic goodies, they slow me down). First ride will be Hardrock in Ocala FL this Saturday. They have a fast main track with big air stuff, an average type of hardpack track and a whooped out sand track. I hope this works out to be an amazing suspention. My limitations on checking this out is my two boys on their KX65 and KX85. Gotta keep them running before I get to play. And then theres Momma, you know what happens if she's not happy.

My 08 YZ250 is clearly the best bike I ever owned. After having a great bike in my yz426 I suffered through years on my 03 yz450. The yz250 is despite being "old technology" way better than the 03. Like the post above I see them as perfected. Neutral handeling, works like suspention, cheap hop ups (power), DOES NOT BREAK, and lots of usable HP. As far as outdated looks go mine looks very modern whenever I ride fast (not often but it does happen). I do hope the TM's do what they are designed for and we have a new choice. my kids are on a KX65 and a KX 85. I will rebuild my nephews 2001 RM125 as their next bike as I have no other choice . As they outgrow the RM I will need a 2 stroke to put them on as I am now a 2T only fan. Yeah I SAID IT, 2 STROKE ONLY!!!

Technical / 08 YZ250 steering head
« on: October 18, 2010, 11:27:51 AM »
Anyone know how to remove the lower steering bearing from the stem? The one on top comes right off but the lower one seems to be a tight fit or pressed on. Both need replacing so I need to get it off. Thanks.

Everything is boxed up and heading to F.C. tomorrow. I am still undecided about the DLC fork tube coating but getting revalve and some other goodies. I can't wait to see how big an improvement I get. If all goes well the first place I will try it is the sand whooped trails and tight woods sections at Croom riding area (FL).  I am not so good at MX anymore but I go very fast at Croom so that will be the test. For those who may be interested I will post after a few rides any improvements.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: China now making 2 stroke dirt bikes!
« on: October 11, 2010, 10:22:36 AM »
The chinese bikes my friends bought cheap for their kids were a waste. Cheap yes but shifting was down to upshift and up to downshift. Worst part was the very very weird handling. Once the kids got real bikes they began to have much more fun and their riding ability greatly increased quickly. Better off with a used big four or KTM as starter bikes. JMHO.

I bought an 85 CR500 from a local pro who ported it himself in his garage. Holy $h1t. Super fast and kind of unridable. There was a sandy pit riding area that had a deep inverted cone of a hole that guys on 250's were spinning and crawling their way up. I could jump about 20' coming out. The guy I bought it from could have gone much higher. Finding traction is where the problems started. Scary-Yes, fun-YES.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Rebuilt YZ, New Property = Broken Ribs
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:03:51 PM »
Later as you heal and feel better you will get worried about the chest congestion you will have . Get it checked if you feel worried but it is normal since you can't breath and cough properly with either a bruised or broken rib for weeks. It will be OK after a while. Please do not ask how I know this so well.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: How much for a 125?
« on: September 12, 2010, 06:41:29 PM »
I live in FL and 2 years ago was looking for a good 125 for my nephew. Everything was high priced and junk. I ended up going through the sales guys I know at the dealer I still go through in NY and paying $1400 for an 01 RM125 from someone in the "family' of the trusted group who all know each other. I paid a little more than I wanted on an older bike but got my $ worth when it was everything the seller said, no BS in the deal. My point is I would go by word of mouth rather than search the ad's. Better to buy a bike that you know the real history. Of course keep an eye on the ad's for that one bike that will sell as soon as someone see's the ad. BTW the 125 will get a total rebuild and be my oldest son's when he outgrows his 85 and the guy I bought it from let me park my camper at his shop for a while while i was in NY last year so I really got a bargain.

Technical / Factory Connection on a YZ250
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:26:36 PM »
Anyone do the factory connection mods to an 06 or newer YZ250? I am giving my 08 a top end, clutch, bearings, and tires to bring it back to top stock performance. The only mods I want are any way to make the excellent suspention even better. I want even better absortion of big hits like over jumping (yeah, I kinda suck at judging some these days so I rely on the suspention to make up for it) and better action on square edge stuff. No complaints about stock, It's the best I ever had. Just thinking what if I could make it even better. Riding type is some MX and fast trails and woods riding. MX setting are what I use in the woods unless there are a lot of rocks and roots. Any info is appreciated.

General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Southwick
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:09:41 PM »
If Ryan is Joes kid there is some very fast blood in those veins. I used to watch Wadington, Johnson, and Mayo clean up in NESC in the 80's. Even JoJo would come out once in a while(WOW). NESC is very fast and competitive and Southwick is one of their tracks. That 125 will be at or near the top. Good luck to Mike, Ryan, and anyone else on a 2 stroke.

I would want a brand new 83 CR125, an 84 CR250, and an 87 CR500. I know they arn't as good as I remember but then neither am I. BTW the 84 CR250 is still the fastest 250 I have ever ridden.
