General Two Stroke Talk / Re: Good, Bad and the Ugly of 125's?
« on: May 24, 2017, 12:18:15 AM »
awesome pickup. the 05 got the last of any changes to the rm. a few small thing like peg position and a few engine tweaks.

stock the motors like to be revved out. and suspension was set fairly light.

both of these are easily addressed by a shop.

my last 125 was a 2004. Had the motor built didnt try to to get a a bit more balance and more power all together. it really opened up the motor doing porting and some head work.

I have ridden 04 kx124, 04 rm125, 05 yz125

stock wise, the kx has a solid motor. good midrange but top end is a little flat. A pc pipe helped. It is a very nimble feeling bike and sits low. Corners are good and straight line. Forks are crap, you can swap a set of showas from the kx250f and the rear can use a longer linkage

the RM's hold a special spot in  my heart. I've had a number of them. I would look for an 04 or newer model as they had some good updates to the chassis and motor. Typically these out of the box are mid and up motors. These corner really well, and there wasnt a turn i didnt have confidence in hitting an inside or outside line. These are opposite feeling to the KX as they sit a little higher, and i remember in chicane's it was a little slower transfering.

The YZ is the most solid. Better build quality vs kx or rm, the motor was well rounded and had good bottom to top power. pre 05 they were 5 speed motors but i still liked them. I didnt have much problem with them but engine power was about the same. the 05 and after are much lighter though. handling nothing wrong but nothing exciting, in turns they push a little but not a deal breaker bad

at this stage I would get the cleanest 125 you could. even 06's can have frame rust.

even if its just jammed with the metal bits youll want to still replace everything and split the cases. your gonna want to get all those metal bits outta there so they dont do more damage. ive ran oem and hot rod cranks and i didnt have any issues with aftermarket however most engine builders will say stick with oem.

The pre 04 RM's have a 105mm rod the later models a 110mm rod. They have a similar length cylinder but different cases. With the 110mm rod you will probably need a spacer plate.

Need to give you a confession 2T Institute! :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> I was wrong and YOU were right about the cases.. The pistons have the same wrist pin height and fits 01-08 but the newer case(04-) has a the crankshaft center lowered 8mm.. I thougt Suzuki just changed the pistons and the rods, which had been easier but they molded a new crank case instead..  :-[ Still dont know why wiseco stample there rm125 pistons 04-08, instead of 01-08.. :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">

i can answer this. go ahead ask me how i know? haha well i had an 04 i raced back in 07. i did the first top end and immediately had issues. very low on power( but i somehow rode it faster) and the spark plug kept coming loose. well i tore it apart and the piston was slapping the head. there was ring on the piston from it. i put it side by side and it stood a few mm's taller than the OP. it was also domed instead of flat. so that being the case the piston profile is different 04-08 vs 01-03.  but bore is the same

correction Renner DID qualify last year. At RED BUD, a track that you would think would help 4ts with deep ruts, big jumps, and lots of soft dirt. he JUST barely made the top 36. if i didnt there wouldve been no way he could qual in a race. he finished like 36-38 for the day i think?

She could do this but if she is so used to podium finishes then completing a moto near last would be quite a shock. By the Hangtown lap times that is what would happen. That said, if she did qualify for the show and was able to finish ahead of even a single 250F that would be amazing. Renner came close (but on a 144).

honestly at this point id pay a $50 subcribe fee to watch them all online. im tired of all the BS tv programming...".well at least compared to the ESPN2 coverage we got SOME live coverage on tv...(mind you its only a 4th of the races) but HEY. its live on OUR channel) if you want the rest its pre recordered in some distant land"

at least with ESPN it was ALL on espn and they showed BOTH motos in one hour and showed both classes back to back
