Air tools are your friend. I ground the weld down and it came off fairly easily.
Ahhh I see. I was assuming it was a decent weld that might of had some penetration and really made it a pain. One less head ache for ya though. Good luck with the build!

Cool project. How do you plan on removing the shifter? Curious minds want to know

Technical / Headlight on a small bore two stroke?
« on: November 24, 2013, 05:25:35 AM »
I get laughed at for riding with what I made, but it works well and was cheap. I took a belt and 8 LED flashlights and super glued them to the belt. I take that belt and tighten it around my front fender, turn all the lights on, and presto, instant headlight for like $10. Though cheap LED flashlights are kinda ify over bumps and usually two go out occasionally, but its still bright.

High temp enamel paint has worked well for me. I mean if you drop the bike and pipe on a rock it'll scratch, but nothing on a bike stays shiny new forever unfortunately  :-X

Technical / New YZ Project

So, today, well I guess yesterday, October 20, I went and picked up the YZ. As I suspected the thing was bagged. The bike was in pieces, the cylinder was missing, bottom end siezed, bolts were mismatched, fenders cut, tires bald, air filter was so old that the oil on it was dry, chain rusted, and the list goes on. One of the weirdest things I found was that the clutch perch was broken, so the owner had wired it together with chicken wire and then taped it with electrical tape.  ??? Anyways, looks like I have lots of work to do but I already got lots done today.
Sounds like you picked up my friends 125, this kid took it to the track with chicken wire holding the chain together, 9 teeth missing on the rear sprocket, and I don't think he had any bearings in tact. Great day  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley"> Sounds like you got your work cut out for you though, have fun with the project

I'm not shooting down the Athena kit idea (it would be pretty sweet), but is the OEM cylinder totally damaged beyond repair? Like did a rod go threw it or something? If not you should be able to re-plate it, re sleeve it at the worst for about $250 depending on where you go.

Got my cylinder in  :) They must have been short on cylinder head studs as they took mine and didn't give them back. Also, who would have thought that a $150 top end kit wouldn't come with gaskets and a wrist pin bearing? Those are on order and I guess maybe there is a slim chance this bike will run before it snows! Maybe...

Apparently their turn around time is closer to a month. They said I'll be getting it back by next friday, but I was told that a week ago too  :) Apparently its taking longer because the dude who had it before me heat seized it, I dunno why that would take an extra week to fix but as long as the bill is still about $200 I wont be complaining...

I'll be going to pick up the cylinder and top end kit tomorrow hopefully so I can at least get it running. I'm tying up some loose ends now, I got the chain on and one of the adjuster bolts is seized while the other snapped. So I'll likely be drilling and re-taping those at some point. I'm aiming to get this thing jetted and set up completely before I move in to my dorm and it takes it's new home in the storage unit near the local track.

After fighting this bike some more I finally got all the wiring all set. I had to tap the threads in on the stator side of the crank because I guess they got damaged somehow. Got a new shifter put on, this thing is freaky, it bends in like three directions, weirdest shifter I've ever seen  ???

No more slavery? I dunno I shovel horse **** for $10 an hour and no S.A contributions. Thats coming close...
When I was saving up for a car a few years ago I shoveled their sh!t and cleaned those damn things all day for $5 an hour. I also had to deal with the most annoying people ever. Oh and I was payed under the table (obviously, that's way below minimum wage). But that was one of three summer jobs that year and it got me a car  ;D

I wish, but you had to be a member at central and I haven't had the money to go register for a membership this year, until now, but it's a little late  ;D
