Thanks for the advice, but were getting the bike today so we shall find out whether this mechanics words speak true. (I highly doubt they will)

My dad recently bought a husky te250 and its really cool. we haven't got it in the garage yet because we still have to pay for it before it leaves the dealer, don't ask, its just a deal that my dad made. anyways we have heard some really cool things about it, and also some really bold and almost unbelievable claims about its performance. My dad talked to the mechanic at the dealer and he said that this bike will do 100 mph out of the box. now while that is pretty insane, it still is believable. what i find to be too big of a claim is this: the mechanic had owned the same type of bike before and he said that there was so much top end power that it had the power of a 2 stroke power band in the top rpm's. Now i ride 2 strokes (hence my account name) and i have only ever owned 2 strokes -5 bikes to be exact- ever since my first bike and i know first hand the sheer power of the 2 stroke power band. Everyone knows that the power in the 2 stroke top rpm/power band is unmatched by any four stroke. If the displacements (cc's) were the same on a four stroke and a 2 stroke bike, the 2 stroke would smoke the four stroke no questions asked. So I find it very hard to believe that this husqvarna is capable of what these guys at the shop are saying. I'm not saying its a bad bike, i love it as a matter of fact, but this just seems ridiculous. I'm not very experienced yet since i've only been riding for 6 years, so tha'ts why i'm asking the people on this forum that have the "know how". So do you think this 4 stroke has the top end power of a 2 stroke? I'm thinking maybe, if the 2 stroke they compared it to was a 65 or 85, but in my opinion, its nowhere near a 125 or 250 2 stroke. Even with your knowledgeable answers, there's only one way to find out. ride it. but still, do tell me what you think. : :P :)

General Two Stroke Talk / New 2 Stroke Direct Injenction
« on: October 20, 2010, 09:56:06 PM »
Here's some questions about the new 2 stroke DI that I would please like answers to:
1. does this mean it can be made for all 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads?
2. Will this make any 2 stroke dirt bike have better fuel emissions than the 4 strokes? From what I read, they claim it can...
3. Why aren't big companies scrambling to get their hands on this genius technology? It would rake in the $$ if they mass produced it. Sure the 4 stroke sales will take a toll but the      companies still make money. probably even more money than before!
4. Would AMA let 2 strokes back into supercross/nationals?
5. Approx. How much would a Di kit cost for a yamaha/honda/(one of the top 5 brands) 250 or 125?
6. Would fuel mixture have to change? less oil or more? different ratio? etc...
7. In 5 years, what do you expect? will 2 strokes be "back from the dead"? will they wipe out four stroke sales? will it even gain in popularity???

please, give your opinion.

General Two Stroke Talk / Wheel Slippage
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:34:13 PM »
I was on a rain ride and it was very muddy, except i was riding on sand at a sand hill and i noticed that when i gave 'er gas, my bike would lunge forward like it always does. it felt like my clutch would not fully disengage. usually my tire spins in sand from all the power, but i still get traction-(don't ask how this happens, it just does). in this situation i had neither. would this be from clutch malfunction? from the sand being very heavy and wet from the rain, or my tire being wet and slippery, or both?

General Two Stroke Talk / Wierd 2 stroke Smoke?
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:27:52 PM »
I was riding in rain at some sandhills and doing some hillclimbs and i was hitting the powerband alot on my bike. then after I got some very annoying metal wire caught up in my wheel, I stopped to untangle it from my tire. I noticed as i was untangling the wire, smoke still kept drifting out of my exhaust pipe. It was white smoke too, and not the normal whitish blue smoke. and it was much thicker. I couldn't figure out what it was so i got worried. I had it happen on my previous bike too and i noticed when i let my bike sit for 10 mins or so the smoke would stop. and it did. but i just want to make sure that it's not something i should be worried about. I've seen it before but very rarely, so i'm trying to be cautious. do you think it would be from a little bit of rain getting in my exhaust? or just from being in the powerband to many times in a short span of minutes? or from the spooge on the end of my muffler getting mixed with rain so that when the rain steams, it burns some spooge with it? anyways, i don't think it's serious because i went riding today for about 15 mins and it seemed fine. any concerns i should know about?

General Two Stroke Talk / Magnetic Oil Drain Bolt
« on: August 31, 2010, 04:25:36 PM »
A few months ago, i had a problem in my engine that caused some internal gears to grind away part of my engine casing. this resulted in loads of tiny metal filings floating around in my engine oil. my mechanic said that i have to keep changing the oil until all the metal filings were gone. so for six months now i have been draing my oil every other ride and throwing new stuff in. this is rather expensive even when you buy the cheap oil and it's annoying. so i had heard of magnetic oil drain bolts and that got me thinking, instead of buying one becuz i have no money, would it be possible to weld a small magnet on to my drain plug? this would aid alot in getting the metal filings out of my engine if i could do it. any suggestions?

General Two Stroke Talk / Need help with tire selection...!
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:34:01 PM »
I was wondering what would be a good front tire for wet conditions but can still be used for everyday kind of riding? Because the tire I have now is great for normal dry conditions but it is the worst for wet/ mud. and when i say bad i mean BAD. Because of my front tire being stupid, it resulted in the dent I got on my pipe at the track when my front tire slipped out from under me as i hit a mud section. It's pissing me off because I like to go on rain rides in the trails sometimes but i don't trust my traction. plz suggest...

General Two Stroke Talk / The Kickstarter and Engine Life?
« on: July 22, 2010, 04:10:20 PM »
I was wondering, is it possible, by pushing or slowly kicking the kickstarter down, to estimate how much life or compression your engine has? Just recently while trying to sell my kx100, the man i was trying to convince started to push the kickstarter down with his hand. He said he was checking the compression. Is this, at all, a good way to check your engine life/compression?

Technical / Which 2 - Cycle Racing Oil is Best?
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:30:40 PM »
You see all these ads in magazines and on T.V. about racing oils, but the true question still remains: Which brand is best? There's Bel Ray, Ams Oil Dominator, Lucas Oil, etc. The only problem is that if I want maximum performance out of my bike which oil should I get? And if mixing the oil at a certain ratio (Between 50:1 and 32:1) makes a difference, than what would be better? It probably matters what bike you have but 2 stroke race bikes are still 2 strokes and lot's of the mini's use recycled technology from the big bikes. So in a sense they are all similar, so there has to be one kind of oil that is the overall best for 2 stroke bikes. Just which one to choose...?

General Two Stroke Talk / Rotary Engines and Dirtbikes?
« on: July 16, 2010, 11:37:49 AM »
I've been wondering, for those of you who know what a rotary engine is, how come they haven't put them in dirtbikes at all? Theres been a few motorcycles with rotaries but i've never heard of any dirtbikes with them. Today it's all about saving emissions and fuel economy and such, and the rotary engine is perfect for that. It can produce more power than a piston and uses less fuel. If the dirtbike companies wanted to be more eco friendly they could mount a rotary engine in heir dirtbikes, or at least make a prototype, because then you'd have the power of both 4 stroke and the high end of 2 stroke, but you'd also have the fuel economy and emissions of a 4 stroke. All you would have to do is scale the engine down so that it would fit in the chassis, you wouldn't have to worry about the power to size ratio. It all makes sense and seems like a genius idea, so why haven't they done it yet?
