T Handle Hex/Torx Set

Why: There are many hex head (or Torx if you have KTM/Husky) bolts on your bike and these are much easier to use than a set held together with a flimsy ring.

TSM Technician says: “Just a simple twist of the wrist.”

Spouse/Parent Argument:  These come in a nice holder so I’ll always be able to find them.

Cost: About $14 on Amazon

Tool Discussion / Twelve Tools of Christmas - #12 Cable Luber
« on: December 12, 2018, 06:10:56 AM »
Cable Luber

Why: Makes an otherwise impossible job easy.

TSM Technician says: “You’ll love the like new feel of a freshly lubed cable! Uh, unless you have a KTM.”

Spouse/Parent Argument: I need to keep my clutch cable in good repair and a lubed cable will be easier on my hands!

Cost: About $11 on Amazon

Tool Discussion / Twelve Tools of Christmas - #11 Safety Wire Pliers
« on: December 11, 2018, 06:11:34 AM »
Safety Wire Pliers

Why: This handy tool will allow you to twist safety wire rapidly and consistently.  Makes wiring on grips a quick project.

TSM Technician says: “Loose grips = big crash. Any questions?”

Spouse/Parent Argument: You don’t want my grips to fall off my bike do you?

Cost: About $27 on Amazon

Metric T-Handle Socket Wrench Set

Why: Makes quick work of simple things and eliminates the need to fish through your socket collection for the right combo of ratchet and socket.

TSM Technician says: “All the pro mechanics are using them…”

Spouse/Parent Argument: I don’t really NEED this but it will make my life easier and you want things to be easier for me don’t you?

Cost: About $28 on Amazon

General Two Stroke Talk / Winter Projects....how many do you have going??
« on: December 09, 2018, 01:59:48 PM »
One things leads to another around here and with winter comes the project list!  What's on our list???

Well...there is an '83 YZ250 getting some preliminary work done on it. Tank restoration in progress, researching parts, this one might be in the works for a while.

Next there is a '93 YZ125...Nanci needs a Revo racer for the upcoming vintage season  ::)  This is kinda going to be a two-become-one project.  We have two of them, one is pretty rough but has some good parts on it, came with a '96 motor.  The other...well we're going to go retrieve it from our storage unit this afternoon to see what it can bring to the bench!

Somewhere on the list is Ron's '93 YZ250 that really could use a rebuild...he bought it new in '93 and it needs some love now.

And...there is one other project in the works too...that one can't be revealed yet...but soon  ;D

The garage is full and somehow we still need to find time to actually go do some trail riding!

Tool Discussion / Twelve Tools of Christmas - #9 Wobble Extension
« on: December 09, 2018, 07:38:29 AM »
Wobble Extension

Why: Wobble extensions let you get a socket on stuff that you can’t quite get a straight shot at without all the bulk and “floppiness” of a universal joint.

TSM Technician says: “Why the hell did they put that bolt there?!?”

Spouse/Parent Argument: I just need one ok?

Cost: About $21 on Amazon

Tool Discussion / Twelve Tools of Christmas - #8 Metric Thread File
« on: December 08, 2018, 07:09:43 AM »
Metric Thread File

Why: Allows you to fix the threads on bolts, shafts, axles, crank ends, etc. that have been damaged.  Each side of the file is a different thread pitch so one tool does them all.

TSM Technician: “Go a little easier on that hammer next time!”

Spouse/Parent Argument: This will keep me from having to replace EVERY bolt on the bike.

Cost: About $17 on Amazon

JIS Crosspoint Screwdriver

Why: The Japanese Industrial Standard screw is commonly found on Japanese motorcycles, from side cover screws to those “guaranteed to strip” ones holding the master cylinder cover on. It looks like a Phillips screw, but it’s not and they will be damaged by a Phillips screwdriver if they’re tight.

TSM Technician says:
“Because stripped screws just suck. “

Spouse/Parent Argument: You don’t want me to be swearing every time I strip a screw do you?

Cost: About $9 on Amazon

Tool Discussion / Twelve Tools of Christmas - #6 Magnetic Pickup Tool
« on: December 05, 2018, 08:45:12 PM »
Magnetic Pickup Tool

Why: Allows you to reach that bolt you dropped down there somewhere your hand and/or fingers won’t reach.

TSM Technician says:
“Damn it! How did that bolt even get all the way down in there!!”

Spouse/Parent Argument: If I have this I won’t have to call you (or little brother/sister) to get what I dropped since your hands are smaller.

Cost: About $11 on Amazon
