Technical / New cylinder, or new sleeve?
« on: February 20, 2011, 03:04:20 PM »
So, I was looking on ebay, and they have a new OEM cylinder for 310 bucks, but then I saw that they also have sleeve kits. What is all involved in a sleeve kit, is it the same as getting the dealer to replate your cylinder? Sorry, I am new to this. Anyway, my cylinder is worn, no way around that, what do you think is my best financial and quality option?

Technical / Bottom end rebuild... again...
« on: February 03, 2011, 07:35:50 AM »
So, this is my second bottom end rebuild since I have bought this bike. I am really getting frustrated with it. Anyways, I have learned two things in the process, one is: Be sure you find a guy to do the rebuild who knows what he is doing, and Hot rods cranks SUCK! Well, I think they do anyways. The connecting rod went after a few months of riding. Sure, I ride my bike hard, I tend to scream my bike as opposed to lug it(it's a 125, that's what you do), but still, the connecting rod should have more life in it. So, I talked to a mechanic and he said that it would be cheaper for me to buy a new crank(funny, he suggested Hot rods) than to rebuild my old stock one from long ago. My problem is, I really do not want to buy another Hot Rods crank. I looked at a wiseco crank, and it is fairly reasonably priced. What do you guys think of Wiseco cranks? Also, I found this used ebay motor, do you think it would be smart to just go that route? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-HONDA-CR125-ENGINE-CART-MOTOR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3cb3c4d54aQQitemZ260714059082QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

General Two Stroke Talk / What does your home track look like?
« on: January 25, 2011, 09:14:07 PM »
I was kind of wondering what your guys' tracks look like? My track is known for great spectator visibility, large jumps, a great whoop section, and an awesome hill climb. Unfortunately our track is being moved because the soil has a lot of clay in it, is really hard packed, is ridiculously far out of town. Our new track should be nice though, nice thick loamy soil, I would know because I used to trail ride in the area for the new track. Anyways the new track is hoped to attract a national, which would be awesome. Anyways back on topic, this is what my track looks like, and no, this is not me riding.

Technical / New bike!
« on: December 28, 2010, 04:19:03 PM »
So, I picked my sister up an 80(two stroke of course). It is a 1991 frame with a 2001 motor. What do you guys know of this bike? Any general problems with the bike? Anything I should be aware of? How often should I do the top end(she is a beginner rider) and what oil to fuel mix should i be running?

General Two Stroke Talk / My first race EVER!
« on: September 17, 2010, 09:13:23 PM »
I am so pumped for tomorrow! It is my first race ever in my life! Well... no, I have done a long distance run before, but that is different. Tomorrow is my first motocross race, and I am racing my stock 125 against the thumpers. I think that I will do ok, as I have identical lap times as my friend, who finished 8th out of thirty last race. I am a bit nervous though, wish me luck, I plan on taking lot's of pics, and posting them here, and will be wearing my twostrokemotocross t-shirt with pride! The track is hard packed, and has a long start, but I plan on kicking some four stroke butt anyways.

General Two Stroke Talk / How much for a 125?
« on: September 06, 2010, 09:49:44 PM »
How much would a decent 05-09 yz 125, 2003-08, or 05-07 cr125 go for? I am planning on selling my bike in the winter and buy a 125 before the spring, but I need to know what I can afford before I go through with this. If you guys see any good deals, please post them here.

Technical / 2001 cr 125 goodie list
« on: August 23, 2010, 10:59:53 PM »
As many of you know, I ride a 2001 cr 125, and it happens to be one of the slowest 125's(in terms of power, has a good frame though) out there. I have now decided to send my cylinder and carburetor to HP bikes as told to do so in the budget racer build up on the main site. Derek Harris is also offering me a 1999 cr 125 ignition module that will allow me to rev higher. My question for you guys is what bolt ons should I buy to make the best, most hard hitting top end ever! I am planning to save up through the winter and buy bolt ons that will compliment the new engine. I have already asked him to put as much punch up top as physically possible. I am thinking an fmf(no pro circuit) fatty will get me the most top, but, I hear the shorty brings more bottom, what silencer would increase top? Also, what reeds? Boysen, or Vforce? What about this power now plus that fits in your carb, and supposedly increases hp, what jet kit? what about this boyesen quick shot cover for the carb? Do you guys know of any bolt ons? I will have roughly a grand to spend. I want this thing to be a fire breather for the 2011 season. I will by the way send the cylinder off in winter, as I have one last race in september, thanks guys! ;D

I finally got my bike running after much headache and heartache, and I am so stoked. Brand new Wiseco rings and piston, Hot rods cranks, and new stator and flywheel. Also, if any one needs a flywheel for a 2001 cr125, I have one here for sale. I am on my first ride on my brand new motor tomorrow, hope to post pics tomorrow night.

General Two Stroke Talk / How do they do it?
« on: July 28, 2010, 09:30:28 AM »
I was looking into some street bikes(like a GXSR 1000) and supposedly they put out 200 hp, but, a yz 250 only puts out like 45 hp, how are they able to get so much hp out of a four stroke like that, and still have it reliable, but are they very reliable? They are a street bike, so they must be, this is all so confusing, it seems as though a whole dif level of technology is put into the street bikes than the dirt bikes

So, my friend is thinking about buying a two stroke, but his doesn't like them because they are "loud". Can anyone give me some articles on how loud modern four strokes are?

Technical / Time estimate for top and bottom end
« on: June 21, 2010, 08:21:41 PM »
I was wondering if you guys could give me a rough estimate of how long it might take to do a top and bottom rebuild on a 2001 cr125. The engine is already out of the frame, and partly disassembled. The cylinder, piston, clutch cover, other side cover, reed valve and carburetor are all off, and the engine is fairly clean. I have all of the parts needed, and the bearings are in the freezer, also, the work is an experienced licensed mechanic. I also just want the engine put back together, not put in the frame, could you guys please give me a rough estimate?
