Technical / Black "water" out of the exhaust 04 RM 125
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:59:45 PM »
Hey guys, i took my wifes 04 rm 125 out yesterday and when i got back there was this black water like stuff coming out of the bottom of the muffler where the outer can joins up up to the inner of the muffler. i smelled it and it didnt smell like fuel and it wasnt real sticky like when you get that black goo that comes out of the tail pipe when you dont twist the throttle enough. it did dry oily though

the bike has been sitting for probably a couple of months but after 2 motos it was still doing it. i have just ordered a new top end for it before i rode it anyway but just wondering if there is anything else i should be looking at doing while i have it apart

jetting i am running 360 main, 35 pilot, needle 2nd clip and screw 2 1/2 turns out. the bike doesnt feel like it is running rich, it hauls ass and once riding isnt smoky at all, just wondering why, what seems like fuel, would be coming out the exhaust when the bike seems to be running right

General Two Stroke Talk / Jeff Emig's comment on 2 and 4 strokes
« on: May 31, 2011, 08:04:34 PM »
I was watching the last AMA outdoors race at freestone last night and for those that didn't see it Ryan dungey's bike stopped with two laps to go. The commentators were discussing how things like that could happen on a factory race bike and how you can't replicate the conditions (hot) in training an Jeff said "the new 450's run at so much higher temperatures and have so many more moving parts than the old two strokes."
He didn't finish the sentence and went onto something else but I pointed that fact out to my brother who is looking at a 250f.
In that same moto they had a report from the pits that factory Honda puts a new motor in their bikes EVERY MOTO.
Kevin windham also blew his hike up in the first moto.
No wonder factories don't want two strokes racing when factory four strokes can't finish a race

Technical / rebuild intervals
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:00:13 PM »
Hey guys just wondering at what intervals you do the top end rebuilds on your bikes. Different people I talk to and different internet sites say different things so I was interested to find out what people here are doing. I did a search but didn't come up with anything even tho I am sure this would have been asked before. Also things like oil changes and stuff. Basically your maintenece schedule

So what kind of bikes have you got and what type of riding do you do and how hard

Technical / 04 RM 125 carby help
« on: March 15, 2011, 09:16:02 PM »
i was changing the jetting in the wifes bike and managed to strip the thread  on the brass screw that the main jet screws into. i have talked to a mechanic and he has rung around and that part is not made for separate sale so basically if i cant find one i am up for a new carby.

none of the wreckers i have talked to are very helpful and just want to sell me a different carby that will fit it that they have in stock.

i am hoping someone on here would either have a carby lying around or would know where i could get my hands on one. i will add a pic later on just to clarify what i want.

any help would be appreciated and i would be happy to pay for any assistance that saves me buying a new carby.

the carby is a Mikuni TMX 38S

Technical / 03/04 rm 125 rebuild and jetting
« on: February 23, 2011, 04:12:16 PM »
ok i bought my wife an rm 125 off a forum not that long ago and the seller told me it was an 05. on that same forum there was a post from someone that said it was an 04 as it was their old bike. no big deal as its basically her first bike(she has ridden before tho) and i got it fairly cheap.

i looked up the vin number on the net and there was no info on it so i rang suzuki australia and they had no records of the vin or engine number and the vin number has a 0 for the tenth digit but it definately not a 2000 or 2001. after a lot of searching on the net and through service manuals i came to the conclusion that it is either 04 or 05 because of the features such as quick adjust clutch, rear master cylinder and linkage mount as these features changed in 04 and were the same for 05. it also has a flat top piston in it which came standard in 04 and the 03 had a dome top.

i was going to order a new top end kit for it when i started playing with the jetting and when i pulled the jets out i found it had been jetted to pro circuits specs for an 03 model. there is quite a bit of difference between the 04 and 03 jets. the jetting has never been spot on, rips up top but has a dead spot right off idle. went to a richer pilot jet and didnt seem to help

so now i am wondering if it could be an 04 chassis with 03 engine or has someone got the jetting specs for the 03 and thought "good enough". the only other clue is to look at the power valve as that changed from 03 to 04 but i dont know what the 03 one should look like to start with

so my question is there any way to tell if the cylinder has been modified to take a flat top piston for the 03 model or do i take it that they just stuffed up the jetting and it really is an 04/05

General Two Stroke Talk / Tone down 250 two strokes???
« on: October 27, 2010, 06:35:12 PM »
So i have been thinking lately, with 250 2T's running with the 250 4T's why couldnt the 2T's have their power mellowed out.

The main thing with motocross 2T's is that the power is very abrupt making traction an issue where as the 4T's produce very linear and tractable power.

So this got me thinking. lately in the enduro scene the 2T bikes have been coming out with adjustable power valve springs to mellow out the power and make more usable, more torquey power curves. Obviously this results in a loss of peak power but as 2T's already have a power and torque advantage by a substantial margin they could lose some of that if it ment a better power curve.

obviously this sort of defeats the purpose of a 2T as the snappy power delivery is one of the reasons why i and i suspect most of you bought a 2T but it would also make them a quicker bike on a track.

Now this is just what i have been thinking, it may have been tried before and failed so feel free to set me straight but i would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this as i really cant see it being a disadvantage
