General Two Stroke Talk / My 450F beater
« on: July 22, 2011, 04:15:58 PM »
Just finished my CR500 hybrid - 2008 CRF250R frame, 2001 CR500 engine.
70 hp with a broad, useable powerband, works Showas, 212 lb dry weight.
More than a match for any 450F.  Next up is a matching CR250 - 2012 CRF
250R frame, 2001 CR250 engine.  Enjoy the pictures.

General Two Stroke Talk / CR500AF update
« on: June 25, 2011, 04:23:59 PM »
I'm slowly but surely assembling my CR500 hybrid.

I gave up on the back ordered Pro Circuit linkage and decided to go with
an OE assembly for now.  Everything is going together pretty good so far.

Here are some more pictures.

General Two Stroke Talk / Support vendors that support us
« on: May 20, 2011, 02:48:06 PM »
I had a nice conversation with the folks at Mettec the other day while
ordering some more ti bits for my CR500 project.  Turns out, they are
big two stroke fans (as in ride and race two strokes).  They are also
re-marketing ti hardware for two stroke applications, I checked
their website and the links are now up for Honda, KTM, Suzuki and
Yamaha.  Here is the link: http://store.mettec.com/

While many vendors have all but ignored the two stroke market, it's
good to see a company that started in that direction (four stroke only),
but decided to buck the trend and support us once again.

I know ti hardware is not on many rider/racers list of must have items,
but for those that use it, I would recommend Mettec.  I think we need
to support the vendors that support us.  Just my two cents.

General Two Stroke Talk / DIY Honda CR500AF
« on: May 05, 2011, 02:38:36 PM »
I just started test fitting some components to my completed frame.
I had planned to use a Pro Circuit linkage assembly, but it has been
back ordered for some time, so no suspension or wheels yet.

Here are a few progress pictures.

Vintage Two Strokes / Montesa 360 GP
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:56:02 AM »
A friend of mine just finished the beautiful restoration of this
Montesa 360 GP.  He spent a lot of time on this one and the
finished product certainly shows that - I don't think I have
ever seen a nicer example.  Thought everyone would enjoy
the pictures.

Vintage Two Strokes / 100cc Revenge
« on: July 31, 2010, 07:32:45 PM »
I am building a bike to race in the Marty Tripes 100cc Revenge Series.
After a lot of research, I have settled on a sleeved down 1978 Honda
CR125.  It will be loosley based on the FMF package racers that were
all the rage back then.  Since this series is pretty much a "run what
you brung" deal (unlike the AHRMA), I am free to go all out.

I'm using a stock 1978 CR125M frame, FMF "Godzilla" aluminum swingarm,
Girling gas/oil shocks, modified stock front forks, RC125 fuel tank, and lots
of other goodies.  The engine will be sleeved down to 50mm and then ported
by Eric Gorr who will also do the headwork.

If anyone is interested, I can post progress pictures of the project as
it comes together.  Should be a fun project and a fun racer.

General Two Stroke Talk / Finished pictures of 1993 Honda CR250
« on: May 22, 2010, 04:13:15 PM »
Finally finished the 1993 Honda CR250 I've been working on for the last year.
Took five kicks to get it to fire on intial start, it starts with one or two now.

This is what I plan to race against all those 250Fs, should be a hoot.

General Two Stroke Talk / 1993 Honda CR250 Project
« on: May 10, 2010, 08:08:05 AM »
I've been scratch building a 1993 Honda CR250 ( my favorite steelie)
for the past year.  I finally have all the parts and am close to finishing
the assembly process.  I tried to put together a bike that ressembled
what the average racer ran in '93 - revalved suspension, 19" rear wheel,
aftermarket pipe and silencer, etc.

For those of you that read the CR250 engine build series of articles, this
is where that engine ended up.

I plan to race this bike heads up at the local level in the 250 class.

I'm including some pictures of the project so far, it's about 95%
complete.

Vintage Two Strokes / A couple of vintage pictures
« on: December 18, 2009, 11:15:51 AM »
I was rummaging through my box of pictures and found these two from the 1974 Trans-Am
Palm Valley round.

The first shot is, I believe Tim Hart watching Pierre Karsmakers heading up the face of a jump.
This is what the factory Yamaha pits looked like back in the day.  The "X" on the number plate
meant these two bikes were 250s and riding in the support class.

The second picture is Marty Tripes in his CZ days wheeling his 400 to the start of the main.
If I remember correctly, Karsmakers won the open class and Gary Jones (Honda) won the
support class that day.

This was the track that I rode my very first race on the "mighty" Hodaka Super Rat.

Vintage Two Strokes / Possible new project
« on: December 16, 2009, 11:42:46 AM »
Recently, a friend told me he had an old Orange bike with a big single cylinder that
has been sitting in his garage for years.  I asked him to email me a picture.  This is
what he sent:

It's a 1983 CR480 in OK shape and fairly complete.  I did some research and parts
are nearly gone so it will be a challenge, but I may go for it anyway.  It couldn't be
any harder than the 1973 CR250M I did a couple years back.

If I do the restoration, I'll post progress pictures here as I go.
