General Two Stroke Talk / Draining carbs
« on: January 31, 2023, 04:34:42 PM »
I don't know if this will be seen by anyone as the site seems quiet but I'll post anyway. We have a toyhauler camper and always drain the gas from the bikes by laying them over on both sides so no gas drips smell up the garage area. This also keeps the ethanol from f&*king up the carbs. Or so I thought. Out bikes sat for a few years and while I got both YZ 250's running good the YZ 125 was messed up. Long story short is rather than melt the piston by running too lean I replaced the carb. Fixed it. This was last season.

Get to our first ride this year and all is good. But decide to add extra measure of starting the bikes after draining to make sure carb is dry. The 250's pop off a few RPM's on the fumes left. Empty. But the 125 idled for a few minutes. So that must be why it got messed up. There was still gas somewhere in it.

Point of my post is to recommend drain and start to make sure all the evil ethanol is out of your carb for storage. I live in FL and have a place I can pull camper into to fill up with 90 octane ethanol free so we are running that now. But will still drain and start to keep carbs clean.

General Two Stroke Talk / I'm a damn liar
« on: April 26, 2022, 06:24:12 PM »
But not intentional. I posted about a 125 build that never happened. Life and work got in the way.

But, as life would have it we now have 2 250's and a 125 that run great. Many bike bucks and effort spent correcting the ills of sitting so many years. My boys both have the 250's. I am in the 125. 59 tomorrow. And I can still hold the throttle open and feather the clutch. Arriving at Durhamtown GA tomorrow for 4 days of riding. The 250's are 2013 and 2015 Yamahas. Both stock basically.

The 2012 125 Yamaha is now my personal ride. It has Boysen reeds and cage, pro circuit pipe and silencer, but is otherwise stock. Had to replace the carb! F**k ethanol! Replaced fenders, outer clutch cover, flywheel cover, etc> Needs to look nice. New Pro circuit pipe on order to replace the one my kid lumped up.

Any ideas on true performance upgrades would be appreciated. 125 is now a started ongoing upgrade project. Price is no object but only if there is a performance gain. Going to concentrate on suspension settings as that is where most bikes suffer.

Anyway no longer a filthy damn liar. Project underway!

General Two Stroke Talk / Winter/Spring Florida riding
« on: September 09, 2019, 05:16:13 PM »
Are any of all y'all Headed south this year? Super super busy at work and need to light a fire under my butt to get the bikes ready. 125 just needs top end. That's a 1 hour job. No build. One 250 had rod knock so need to pull that one apart. 6 tires in all. Then we are in business! Hoping to be riding by January.

All our old riding crew went different directions. We are up for any 2 stroke (or 4 for that matter) riding buddies. We do weekends with the camper so dinner and the campfire (and some seriously deep BS bench racing ball bustin) are as important as the days riding. Planning on Croom and Hardrock MX park as they are close. Also open to Durhamtown GA and any other FL spots. See some new ones on RiderPlanet to maybe explore.

If it gets too hot maybe a fishing day on my boat.

Days are going by way too fast. Need to slow it down some and smell the roses.

Roses are 2 stroke MX bikes and 2 stroke outboards!

General Two Stroke Talk / So what to do with the 125?
« on: July 16, 2018, 08:32:15 PM »
My youngest (now 17) is more interested in the 250's these days. The 125 is never going away. So what do I do? Interested in a build of epic proportions. Think money is no object but not going to waste a penny on anything that doers not add real value. Don't want a "Pro only" powerband that is peaky and hard to ride but willing to sacrifice a little to get some more top end. Me and the boy's know how to punish the poor clutch to make things happen.

So any advice on this? Bike is a 2012. FYI we are talking engine only. More than satisfied with everything else. And no oversize kits. Will always be a 125. After all that's what makes it fun, right? 8)

Read about this a while ago and finally got off my butt and booked a campground nearby. Not quite Dilla but close to me. Week after nationals end so hoping some big names show up to rile up the contenders.

And yes, this is 2 stroke related because I am waiting for JS7 to say screw it and show up on a 250!!!

Anyone else going?

For Sale / 1987 CR500 SOLD
« on: March 25, 2011, 06:03:02 AM »
It is going to Italy. I guess the euro prevents a decent deal over seas if it is cheaper to buy one here and pay the shipping. I sold a 26' Trojan boat back in 92 that went overseas as well. I guess that oldies but goodies are in demand.

General Two Stroke Talk / Daytona
« on: February 25, 2011, 08:56:19 PM »
Anyone going to Daytona SC? We are camped out there Friday through Sunday. I would much rather be an MX race ( will most likely be at Unadille this year) but I wanted to check out the infield camping. I thought about doing the 500 but 3G's was too much. Anyway I would have some hospitality if you speaka my language: 2 Stroke. FYI I am hoping for a mudbath cuase I think Canard would win it.

For Sale / 1987 CR500 pipe
« on: December 08, 2010, 02:22:10 PM »
I need a pipe for my 500. Stock or aftermarket is fine as long as its in good shape. I can get a new Pro Circuit for a little over$200 but if someone here has one let me know. The bike is a low budget playbike for now.

Non-Moto / Durhamtown
« on: November 14, 2010, 04:03:11 PM »
Going to Durhamtown Plantation in Georgia for 3-4 days of riding this weekend. We have a big group going and will do a pre Thanksgiving dinner. I will be counting the 2 strokes. I think the tide is definetely turning for the recreational crowd. I will watch the race on the "Bomber" track to see who is riding what. Any forum members riding there? If so our camp is a hospitality tent to those with a good campfire story.  Then after Thanksgiving we head to Hardrock cycle park in Ocala. Good times, good times. The season has begun!

Technical / 08 YZ250 steering head
« on: October 18, 2010, 11:27:51 AM »
Anyone know how to remove the lower steering bearing from the stem? The one on top comes right off but the lower one seems to be a tight fit or pressed on. Both need replacing so I need to get it off. Thanks.

Technical / Factory Connection on a YZ250
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:26:36 PM »
Anyone do the factory connection mods to an 06 or newer YZ250? I am giving my 08 a top end, clutch, bearings, and tires to bring it back to top stock performance. The only mods I want are any way to make the excellent suspention even better. I want even better absortion of big hits like over jumping (yeah, I kinda suck at judging some these days so I rely on the suspention to make up for it) and better action on square edge stuff. No complaints about stock, It's the best I ever had. Just thinking what if I could make it even better. Riding type is some MX and fast trails and woods riding. MX setting are what I use in the woods unless there are a lot of rocks and roots. Any info is appreciated.

General Two Stroke Talk / Cr500 project
« on: December 22, 2009, 06:10:24 PM »
I have an 87 CR500 that I am thinking of using the engine in a modern frame. My 08 YZ250 is the best bike I ever owned. Does anyone know if the engine will fit if I could find a chassis? I have a welder that can handle this but I think there may be more to consider than "is there enough room".  My other option is to modernize the 87. Downside to that is old seals, bearings, radiators, and other parts that eat up $ or are hard to find. Like the Cummins in my truck that old 87 engine is all I really care about. I just need a way to enjoy that deeeep braaaaap of the 500. Thanks.
