General Two Stroke Talk / FIRST LOOK ? SHERCO?S 300 SE-R FUEL INJECTION
« on: December 27, 2014, 12:25:58 AM »
Simple, as factory states,  you don't have to jet efi.

And the 2 minutes it takes to change a main or pilot jet is worth not only hte initial increase in purchase price, but the fact you no longer posses the ability to diagnose or repair it and the thousands it can cost to repair the **** if something does go wrong?

yea because the 4 stroke efi systems are so unreliable and don't have any hand held tuners or computer software to communicate to them.

I have had quite a few 2 stroke snowmobiles with efi and they were awesome and we never had any issues with them either. Did I mention they were battery-less.....so there goes the weight disadvantage. efi is not a new concept, it has been proven in many other applications to be reliable. its just the latest evolution in 2 stroke technology to stay ahead of emissions regulations.

General Two Stroke Talk / Chain tension
« on: April 24, 2013, 02:04:45 PM »
At the back of the slider as well. It was holding up fine up until my last woods ride, it slipped off, jammed up in the swing arm, and locked my rear tire. Wiped out and had a fantastic time getting the thing off. My sprockets are literally brand new too. I don't think chain brand should have anything to do with tension, but I'll try and see what I can find about the specific brand. It's a D.I.D X ring.

I meant brand of bike. If you call the dealer and tell the service department what model bike you have they can look in the service manual for you. All service manuals have a chain slack measurement that can be checked with a ruler.

try calling the service department at a dealer that sells the brand that you have. they should be able to give you an actual spec distance for your bike.

General Two Stroke Talk / 250sx vs 250xc
« on: January 24, 2013, 12:38:05 AM »
Have you looked at the 150 XC? No E-start for that one and it is as tall as the other KTM's but it sure is light. At your height I would look at a lowering link which should drop the rear several inches at the seat and allow you to easily touch the ground. I have a stature challenged friend who has used lowering links on his bikes and is very happy with them.

I haven't considered the 150 because I could keep a piston in a 250 twice as long as I could in my 125's. I also like the extra power the 250 has.
How is the reliability of the 150's?

Thats around 7 kgs for a bloody es? Thats bollocks. If you're dead set on a magic button, maybe a 250SXfs would fit it? If so is it ligher? (I'd bet my left nut it is considerably lighter). If so then just buy the XC, ask around at wreckers for a 250SXFs starter and ask them if they would trade the XCs for the SXFs.

I agree with Ford though. It would most definitely be a deal breaker for me. If there was no alternative and I was still set on the XC, I would just take it off. Two strokes are meant to be light and they are easy as pie to start (If tuned correctly) anyway.

i just looked at the specs and the 250XC is 229lbs while the the 250SXF is 229.7lbs which means you just lost your left nut!  :o

I know that 2-strokes are fairly easy to start since i had my kx but the general problem is im 5'3" and cant touch the ground.

I hope I  don't start a war with this question but,

What bike is the better choice KTM 250SX or the 250 XC?

I'm a short guy (5'3") and light (135lbs) so i really like the e start option. I also like the clear tank of the XC since its easier to see fuel level.
I used to have a 01 KX 250 and did some racing with it and was usually mid pack and higher in the 250C class. Im not really sure how much racing i would do again but some track time on practice days would happen occasionally as well as some trail rides.
Ive never had a dialed suspension at all. Never once have I changed a spring, even though i wish i would have multiple times.

Im looking into getting a new bike and these two at the top of the list and cant really decide which is better for me.

FMF SST Pipe w/ Titanium II SST silencer, great combo for my '01 KX 250! 8)

FMF's site doesnt show these two available for an '01

Is FMF really that much better than PC? Seems like PC would be better since Kawi ran them for years.

What would be better to use a Pro Circuit Shorty or the regular 304? I know 125s like to use the shorty but im not sure about 250s

I usually race at this track too,
